The difference between RAW and JPG. Brief Version

1. RAW is uncompressed and lossless. JPEG is compressed, lossy format.

2. You can push RAW images further than JPG, especially regarding tonal ranges, without losing quality as RAW does not compress the colour and dynamic range of the image. JPG has a way of sometimes "crushing" information, especially shadow/highlight detail.

3. When working in Adobe Camera Raw/Lightroom/Capture One you'll be able to change certain settings like your White balance. In JPG this cannot be achieved. See previous point.

4. When working as a journalist, some companies would require you to only shoot RAW so the integrity of the image can be verified. I.e the image has not been manipulated etc.
