🏗️ Solar installation is not always a straight-forward job.

This roof had uneven sections that looked like waves, which meant the mounting system needed careful adjustment. The rails had to be adapted to ensure the ballast system sat correctly and the panels were installed safely.

Good solar installers don’t just fit equipment they solve problems on site while protecting the roof and ensuring a quality long-term installation.

🔧 The difference is in the details.

Good cable management is not just about making an installation look neat — it protects cables from damage, improves safety, and helps your solar system perform reliably for years.

A quality solar installation is built with attention to every detail, from the panels on the roof to the cables behind the scenes.

⚠️ Small details make a big difference in solar.

Did you know solar panels should not just be clamped anywhere? The mounting zones are specified by the panel manufacturer, and clamping on the short side can put unnecessary stress on the frame and affect long-term reliability.

Quality solar is about following the correct installation methods, not just getting panels on the roof.

💧 A small installation detail can create a big problem.

During an inspection, we found galvanised steel conduits installed with the openings facing upwards. This allows water to enter the conduit system and can lead to corrosion, insulation damage, and potential safety issues over time.

Solar installations are not just about mounting panels and connecting cables. The small details during installation make the difference between a system that lasts and one that creates problems later.

Our goal is to educate homeowners so they know what quality workmanship looks like.

🔍 What happens to a solar system after 7 years?

We were invited to inspect a solar installation that was not installed by us. Our goal is not just to install new systems, but to educate homeowners and help ensure existing solar installations remain safe, compliant, and performing as they should.

In this inspection, we’ll look at what has changed over the years, what signs homeowners should watch for, and why regular checks on solar systems matter.

⚠️ Going solar in Cape Town? Here's something many homeowners don't know.

If you're currently on a postpaid electricity meter, registering a compliant solar system may trigger the City of Cape Town's process to convert your supply to a prepaid meter.

This isn't caused by the solar equipment itself—it's part of the City's metering requirements for many registered SSEG installations. Understanding this before you install can help you avoid surprises.

Thinking about going solar? Reach out to us and we'll guide you through the entire process, including the municipal requirements.

⚡ Three solar terms everyone should know.

• kWp tells you the maximum output your solar panels can produce under ideal conditions.

• kW tells you how much power is being used or generated right now.

• kWh tells you how much energy has been used or produced over a period of time. This is the number you see on your electricity bill.

Knowing the difference makes comparing solar systems a whole lot easier.

What other solar terms should we explain next?

☀️ Can Your Roof Accommodate Solar?

It's not just about having enough roof space.

Your roof also needs to safely support the solar system.

We look at both **static loads** (the weight of the panels and mounting system) and dynamic loads (forces like wind that act on the installation).

A proper structural assessment helps ensure your system is safe, compliant, and built to last.

Why Isn't Your Solar System Performing Like Your Neighbour's? ⚡

Just because your neighbour has solar doesn't mean you'll get the same results. 🏠☀️
One of the biggest factors is roof orientation and pitch. Even if your homes are side by side, your solar arrays could be facing different directions or installed at different angles.
A steeper roof may perform better during winter when the sun is lower, while a shallower roof can produce more energy during summer when the sun is higher.

That's why comparing systems without considering roof orientation, pitch, shading, and system design doesn't tell the full story.
Every roof is unique, and every solar system should be designed to match it.

Will this chimney and satellite dish shade the solar panels? ☀️🔍

A common concern after a new solar installation is seeing objects reflected on the panels and wondering if they will cause shading.

In this case, the panels are north-facing, and although the chimney and satellite dish are visible in the reflection, the sun’s path will simply arc across them without creating a meaningful shading issue on the array.

This is why proper system design matters. We don't just look at where panels fit we analyse the roof, orientation and sun path to ensure the system performs as expected throughout the year.
