As we celebrate Africa Day, we reflect on the words of Moky Makura, who delivered a TRI Talk entitled 'Reframing Africa: Why narratives matter' at the Trialogue Business in Society Conference 2026 earlier this month.

Moky, who is the executive director of Africa No Filter, noted that while many of the stories told about Africa haven't changed much since the 1980s, the reality on the ground reflects much growth, development and creativity.

WEBINAR | Building a more resilient civil society

Across the Global South, civil society organisations are operating in increasingly complex and constrained environments, and what it means to be resilient is being redefined not only as the ability to withstand shocks but also as the capacity to adapt, collaborate and transform. Strengthening civil society requires a holistic approach that goes beyond funding, encompassing institutional capacity, strategic relevance and the wellbeing of the people driving this work.

Trialogue, in partnership with the FoFord Foundationwill host a webinar that explores how resilience is being built in practice across the Global South, the impact this has had on civil society organisations and movements, and the key lessons for funders, companies and practitioners seeking to support more sustainable social change.

“We wanted to move beyond just reporting on numbers and outputs and start seeing tangible impact."

Nine years ago, the Vodacom Foundation recognised that its R120-million annual CSI budget was spread across many projects and development objectives, making it difficult to demonstrate meaningful social impact. Working with Trialogue through a strategic review process, the foundation refined its activities into two core pillars: education and gender empowerment. By aligning its programmes with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the foundation laid the groundwork for more rigorous measurement aligned with global goals.

Read the case study, 'Vodacom: Growing impact through measurement', which was featured in the Trialogue Business in Society Handbook 2026.

Find out why the Vodacom Foundation established a dedicated monitoring & evaluation function to measure the impact of its CSI efforts on both beneficiaries and the broader society it serves.

Lorenzo Davids (The Development Impact Fund) closes the Trialogue conference with a rousing closing keynote: “The future we fund is the future we get!”

06/05/2026

As we close Trialogue’s Business in Society Conference 2026, Lorenzo Davids (The Development Impact Fund) speaks to the topic: The future we fund is the future we get. His address reflects on how funding decisions shape outcomes, influence power dynamics and determine which voices and priorities are supported.

The keynote challenges organisations to examine the values embedded in how they fund, partner and measure impact and to consider how these choices shape the future of the sector.

This conversation explores how cross-sector partnerships can move beyond providing connectivity to enabling real inclusion through skills development, education and sustained support.

Panellists are examining what it takes to translate digital access into meaningful opportunities, particularly in underserved communities.
