It was a privilege to present at the Spatial Planning, Rural Development & Industrialisation Conference 2021 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) yesterday!
My presentation focused on the role of civil society & the private sector in achieving the National Development Plan (NDP) goals. I believe the following key objectives and outcomes must be in place to drive the NDP in sustainable and meaningful ways.
1. We need to create active citizenry to strengthen development, democracy and accountability. Our approach must be people-centered and focused on achieving the overarching 2030 vision of the NDP.
2. As private sector, we need to actively implement a Shared-Value strategy and approach that drives positive and sustainable socio-economic and environmental impacts through which we bring about societal change.
3. There must be better coordination between government, civil society and private sector if we have any chance in turning the economy around. We need to work together and not against each other.
4. Urban Development must be inclusive and sustainable with long-term benefits and accessibility for previously disadvantaged groups.
5. All sectors MUST focus on SMME Development. SMME's hold the key to curbing unemployment and driving economic growth. We need to create a culture of entrepreneurship and support SMME's in their growth and development, ensuring mechanisms for their sustainability.
6. We need to boost our investment and support of Civil Society Organisations (CSO's) to bridge the gap between government and its people, and to support service delivery and access to opportunities.
At The People Perspective, we actively work with clients to co-create unique Shared-Value Strategies that ensures continued growth in profits whilst delivering on socio-economic and environmental impacts. This is a unique balance of creating an eco-system between government, private sector and civil society.
