Congratulations to the latest graduates of Umoya Energy's Enterprise Development Programme!

Twenty local entrepreneurs from Hopefield, Moorreesburg and Piketberg have successfully completed an eight-month business development journey. Through hands-on training, mentorship and psychosocial support, participants strengthened their businesses, built confidence, and gained practical skills for sustainable growth.

Funded by Umoya Energy Wind Farm and implemented by the Initiative for Community Advancement (ICA), the programme continues to empower community-rooted enterprises, create jobs, and drive long-term local economic growth.

South Africa’s electricity market is entering a new era.

The South African Wholesale Electricity Market (SAWEM), expected to launch in April 2026, will move the country from a single-buyer system to a competitive, multi-buyer electricity market. This shift will improve transparency, efficiency and the attractiveness of private investment, while supporting a more diverse, largely renewable energy mix.

As customers become active participants in the market, the role of aggregators and traders becomes essential, helping manage forecasting, optimisation and balancing in a more complex system.

SAWEM is a major milestone, but its success will depend on grid investment, policy certainty and broader reform. At NOA, we were built for this transition.

Celebrating growth and new beginnings!

On Tuesday, 27 January, we celebrated the graduation of Cohort 3 of our SMME Programme, a group of inspiring small business owners from Hopefield, Moorreesburg, and Piketberg who have officially completed the programme.

This round of the programme was made possible through a collaboration between Umoya Energy and Aurora-Rietvlei Solar, with the Initiative for Community Advancement as the implementing partner. Together, we supported entrepreneurs with skills, knowledge, and tools to grow their businesses sustainably.

A big congratulations to all our graduates, your hard work and commitment truly paid off!

Boitumelo Pooe and Kamogelo Selebalo, two determined students from Kgakala and Makwasi, were awarded scholarships as part of Bokamoso Solar’s bursary programme that not only eases the financial burden of tertiary education but also provides essential psycho-social support, shaping their personal growth and inspiring long-term aspirations to give back to their community.

To address the growing social and emotional challenges faced by learners, a community programme, funded by REISA Solar, is working to build confidence, belonging, and resilience amongst hundreds of learners across nine Gamagara schools in the Northern Cape.

One of the key highlights for this programme is the Boys’ Camp, which focuses on building mentorship, discipline, and resilience among Grade 9 boys, many of whom are growing up without father figures.

An accredited learnership programme that launched earlier this year is empowering 10 local young people with valuable skills to enhance their employability in the field of project management. Funded by Kangnas Wind Farm, the initiative targeted community-conscious youths, providing them with access to exciting work environments, such as the local springbok community radio station.

The success of this Project Management initiative lies in the strong partnership between local organisations and the youth, allowing participants to gain practical work experience.
