Umvoto, in collaboration with SADC-GMI, hosted a stakeholder workshop in January 2026 in Dar es Salaam for the project “Determining Groundwater Dependency and Vulnerability in Coastal Cities (Cape Town and Dar es Salaam)”. This was the second validation workshop for the project, following the first one, which was held in September 2025 for the Cape Town component of the project.
This part of the project aimed to develop a Conjunctive Management Strategic Action Plan for the Wami-Ruvu Basin Water Board to provide a framework to guide sustainable groundwater use, mitigating identified risks and enhancing resilience in Dar es Salaam to climate change and environmental stresses.
The workshop provided an important platform to share project progress and gather stakeholder feedback on the proposed strategic action plans. Participants included representatives from SADC-GMI, the project team from Umvoto, WEMA, Hydrologic Consulting, the Freshwater Research Centre, along with members from academia, the GIZ, and Wami-Ruvu Basin Water Board.
