Not every dedicated home cinema cinema room needs a projector.

For this St James room, Mirror Edge Networks designed and built a welcoming cinema around an 85-inch display, M&K 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos sound and Anthem amplification. A purpose-built front wall keeps the subwoofer out of sight, while Control4 brings the system and lighting together.

It’s the room design—not just the equipment list—that makes the experience work.

Four storeys, multiple viewing spaces—and one system that needed to feel simple to use.

At this Green Point home, Mirror Edge Networks brought together whole-house Wi‑Fi, central TV distribution and Crestron control. The network and cabling behind the scenes support entertainment from the bedrooms and lounge through to the gym and pool pavilion.

Sometimes the most useful upgrade is a thoughtful detail.

In this Bakoven apartment, we mounted the lounge and bedroom televisions on Vogel’s pull-and-turn brackets. The lounge screen can be angled away from glare; the bedroom screen can turn towards the bed. Both can be pulled forward when cabling needs attention.

The wider project also brought better Wi-Fi, Sonos music and surround sound across the apartment—but the everyday viewing position mattered just as much.

A guest media room should be easy to enjoy from the first visit.

For this Camps Bay rental property, we built a screen wall around an 85-inch television. It conceals the network, power and cabling, while a Sonos Arc and rear speakers provide surround sound without cluttering the room.

The result is a comfortable place for films, sport and family viewing—with the supporting technology kept out of sight.

Most of the work in this Fresnaye home is invisible once you walk in.

We began this retrofit with new conduits and colour-coordinated structured cabling. That foundation supports whole-home Wi-Fi, shared video sources for four televisions, Sonos audio in the living spaces and pool patio, and straightforward Control4 control.

The aim was to make a substantial technology system feel simple to live with.

A beautiful home cinema still needs to work reliably.

In this Camps Bay room, video problems were interrupting the family’s enjoyment—particularly when using the PlayStation 5. We tested the existing HDMI signal path, upgraded the cable to the projector, installed an Anthem MRX 1140 and added four M&K overhead speakers for Dolby Atmos.

It was a focused upgrade to an existing room, completed in time for a family party.

A three-storey home needs its technology to work from room to room—not just in the lounge.

During this Bantry Bay renovation, we planned the network, Wi-Fi, television distribution and music as one installation. Five Wi-Fi access points serve the property, while Sonos brings music to the kitchen, gym and main lounge. The family’s Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 9000 remained part of the system too.

It’s a good example of designing around how each room is used, while keeping the whole home connected.

One room, two very different experiences.

In this Oranjezicht home, the illuminated bar is part of the room when the cinema is off. When it’s time to watch a film, motorised blinds close over the glazing and a custom drawer moves the client’s projector into position.

Mirror Edge Networks designed the cinema in association with Sphere Custom Design and carried out the AV installation and integration. Definition Automation helped create the projector mechanism, while GFP Lighting supplied the specialist lighting.

What should you do with a Bang & Olufsen system you still love, but no longer use as often as you’d like?

The answer isn’t automatically to replace it. We can assess the existing equipment, cabling and controls, then look at practical ways to reconnect it, introduce current sources or plan an upgrade.

Every system is different, so compatibility and repair options need checking first. The aim is to keep what still works beautifully and make the whole system easier to enjoy.

This Durbanville cinema was planned while the new house was still being built. That gave us the chance to coordinate the speakers, screen, cabling and lighting before the room was finished.

The result includes a floating 120-inch projection screen, M&K Dolby Atmos sound and a custom rear-wall lighting feature made with more than 30 individual fittings.
