Last week our founder was asked to share his entrepreneurial journey in Southern Africa at the Africa Business Dialogue, organised bij .nl.

It was great to see that there is so much interest in doing business in the continent we love so much. The next step is to understand its people, complexity and potential.

If you truly want to have an impact, listen to local voices, collaborate with local partners and above all build for local markets, not just from a distance.

💡Let’s keep the dialogue going - not just about doing business IN Africa, but WITH Africa.

🍽️  One-third of all food produced never gets eaten.

In the Netherlands it’s about 30% in South Africa around 34% of all food produced. This year humanity reached on 28 July, meaning we’ve already consumed 100% of the planet’s annual renewable resources—and are now operating in ecological deficit.

As it was last week the Week of Food Waste it reminded us of a powerful campaign we created four years ago for The Climate Diet with Soapbox South Africa: The Waste Free Waiters. It called attention to the urgent need to rethink how we grow, distribute, and consume food. 💚

If you’re looking for behaviour-change campaigns that move people from awareness to action on sustainability and climate, we are the the agency to partner with. 💪

EATING IS OUR COMPANY CULTURE?! 😲

YES! This week, we celebrated some key events at Soapbox as part of our Weekly Wednesday Team Lunch. These lunches, normally at our office rooftop, are not just for sustenance but a chance to connect as colleagues. 🍽️

So this week, we found it fitting to connect over the celebration of two important days of our team. Honouring our project teams of SDG-Challenge SA’s Leah Mulenga’s birthday and Captain Fanplastic’s Nobuhle Zulu’s end of Ramadan- Eid. 🫶🏿

It is in these kinds of moments of celebration that we create togetherness in shared interests and culture. Because, after all, a team that eats together, works better together! 😁

Look at those jazz hands from the team, from front to back: Yanga Gceya, Eileen Sloane, Amelia Francis, Nobuhle Zulu & Leah Mulenga!

Before we check-out for the Festive Season, we want to reflect on an unforgettable event we organised on the 6th of December! 💚

Our 9th dinner, themed Friendly Footprints, brought together a powerful blend of thought leadership, sustainability, and community in the heart of Cape Town at the historic Church House by . This beautifully restored venue, beside the iconic St George’s Cathedral, set the perfect stage for meaningful discussions and incredible climate friendly food curated by . ✨

Our inspiring speakers, and Chris Kastern from , brought their unique perspectives to the evening. S**i shared how his coffee journey has transformed community spaces in Khayelitsha, proving that supporting local businesses as a tourist can create powerful social impact. Chris highlighted the importance of supporting small-scale fishers and embracing sustainable seafood practices, showing how our food choices can empower communities and protect our oceans. 🚀

With an engaging quiz, an eye-opening short documentary, and a room full of passionate individuals, we celebrated the power of small actions to leave friendly footprints for a greener future. 🌍

Thank you to everyone who joined us and to all the sponsors (, , , , , & ) who made this evening possible!

🚃 Buckle-up for our Year-end Function !

Last week, the team came together to celebrate an amazing year of hard work and achievements. In true SoapboxSA fashion, we immersed ourselves in culture and nature at the ‘Embassy’ of the San.

The day began with a breathtaking safari through !Khwa ttu’s game reserve, where we marveled at Zebra, Blesbok, Wildebeest, Springbok, and so much more. Next, we explored the inspiring world of the San, one of the oldest cultures on Earth. Currently only 400-600 San are able to live following their old ways and are one of the last hunter-gatherer societies left on earth.

!Khwa ttu’s heritage centre, widely regarded as one of South Africa’s most beautiful museums, gave us a glimpse into their incredible wisdom and traditions. We also had the privilege of learning about the San’s deep knowledge of plants through a tea-tasting experience and a captivating story shared by |Xung, a proud San heritage guide. ☕

We wrapped up this unforgettable day with a delicious lunch, featuring indigenous ingredients, and raised our glasses to everything we’ve accomplished in 2024. 🍾

Here’s to understanding where we come from, not taking more than we need and the power of teamwork! ✨
