A serious security incident occurred during the early hours of this morning at a residential complex in the Waterfall East area of Rustenburg.
A group of armed suspects targeted security personnel before stealing multiple vehicles from the premises. Investigations are ongoing, but the incident highlights the increasing risk posed by organised vehicle theft syndicates operating in our area.
The stolen vehicles are believed to have travelled in the direction of Olifantsnek, while the abducted security officers were droppedoff in that area and went for help at nearest garage.
We urge all residents to remain vigilant and take reasonable precautions to protect themselves and their property:
• Ensure your vehicle is fitted with a reliable tracking device.
• Keep updated photographs of your vehicle.
• Save your licence plate number, VIN number, distinguishing marks, dents, stickers, accessories, and any other identifying features in a dedicated folder on your phone.
• Consider additional vehicle protection measures where possible.
• Be especially alert if you own a vehicle known to be frequently targeted by criminals.
From information recieve it was four VW Polo vehicles that was stolen, we can not yet confirm if all was the same vehicles but this is alarming.
The sooner incidents are reported to community groups and security networks, the sooner a coordinated response can be initiated. If your vehicle is stolen, obtain a SAPS case number as quickly as possible.
With a case nr we can flag vehicle on Nr Plate cameras across the country. This allows vehicles to be flagged on camera networks and monitoring systems, increasing the chances of detection should they pass through other areas or towns.
Unfortunately, when criminals operate in large, armed groups, there is often very little that victims can do without placing themselves at risk. Your personal safety should always remain the priority.
Vehicle-related crime remains a significant concern in Rustenburg, and effective communication between residents, security providers, and SAPS remains one of the strongest tools available in combating it.
