β˜€οΈ **SOLAR SMARTS β€” DAY 7 OF 10**

# # πŸ’° THE CHEAPEST SOLAR QUOTE MIGHT NOT BE THE CHEAPEST SYSTEM…

Let's play a little game.

You get three solar quotes.

Quote A: **R120,000**
Quote B: **R145,000**
Quote C: **R175,000**

Which one do you choose?

**The cheapest one, obviously. Right?** 😏

Well… maybe.

But there's a small problem.

# # # A solar quotation is about a lot more than the number at the bottom.

Imagine buying a car like this:

> β€œDon't worry about the engine, brakes or service history.

> **It's the cheapest one.”** πŸ˜‚

You probably wouldn't.

Solar deserves the same level of scrutiny.

When comparing systems, look beyond the headline price and ask:

πŸ”‹ **What battery am I getting?**

⚑ **What inverter is being used?**

β˜€οΈ **How many panels and what specifications?**

πŸ›‘οΈ **What protection equipment is included?**

πŸ—οΈ **What installation work is included?**

πŸ“‘ **Can I monitor the system?**

πŸ“‹ **What documentation and compliance requirements are covered?**

πŸ› οΈ **What after-sales support is available?**

πŸ“œ **What warranties apply to the equipment and installation?**

And perhaps the most important question:

# # # **Are the systems actually comparable?**

A 10 kW solar system isn't necessarily the same as another 10 kW solar system.

Two quotations can have the same panel capacity but completely different batteries, inverters, equipment, installation standards and expected performance.

That's why we believe a solar quotation should make it easy for you to understand **what you're actually buying.**

# # # Here's the bigger picture:

A solar system is expected to work for years.

So the question shouldn't simply be:

> **β€œHow little can I pay today?”**

It should also be:

> **β€œWhat am I getting for my investment?”**

For a homeowner, that can mean looking at long-term energy costs, backup requirements and household consumption.

For a business, it can mean looking at energy costs, operating requirements, system performance and the value of keeping critical operations running.

# # # β˜€οΈ Cheap isn't automatically bad.

# # # β˜€οΈ Expensive isn't automatically good.

**The important thing is understanding the difference.**

And that's exactly what we're trying to do with **Solar Smarts**:

Give you enough knowledge to ask better questions before you invest.

# # # πŸ‘‡ QUESTION OF THE DAY:

If you were comparing two solar quotes, **what would you want to know before choosing one?**

πŸ’° Price
πŸ”‹ Battery
⚑ Inverter

15/09/2026

β˜€οΈ **SOLAR SMARTS β€” DAY 6 OF 10**

# # HOW MANY SOLAR PANELS DO YOU ACTUALLY NEED?

**6? 10? 16? 24?**

Or perhaps we should just cover the entire roof and call it a day? πŸ˜‚

Unfortunately, there isn't a magic number.

And if someone tells you:

> **β€œEvery house needs exactly 12 panels.”**

…you may want to ask a few more questions. πŸ‘€

# # # Here's why.

Solar panels don't know whether they're powering:

🏠 A family home
🏒 An office
🍽️ A restaurant
🏭 A factory
πŸͺ A retail store
🚜 A farm

They simply generate electricity when conditions allow.

**The important question is how much electricity YOU need β€” and when you need it.**

When designing a solar system, we look at things such as:

⚑ **Your electricity consumption**
How many kWh are you actually using?

⏰ **Your usage pattern**
Are you using most of your electricity during the day or at night?

β˜€οΈ **Your location**
Solar production varies depending on where you are and the available solar resource.

🏠 **Your roof space and orientation**
Not every roof is equally suitable for solar.

🌀️ **Shading**
Trees, buildings and other obstacles can affect production.

πŸ”‹ **Your battery requirements**
Do you want backup power? How much? For how long?

βš™οΈ **Your inverter**
The panels and inverter need to be correctly matched within their technical specifications.

πŸ“ˆ **Your future needs**
Because your electricity consumption today might not be the same five years from now.

# # # And here's something important:

**More panels doesn't automatically mean a better system.**

The goal isn't:

> β€œLet's put as many panels up there as possible.”

The goal is:

> **β€œLet's design the right system for the way you use energy.”**

For a business, that could mean designing around daytime operations and reducing the amount of electricity purchased from the grid.

For a home, it could mean balancing daytime solar production with evening consumption and battery storage.

# # # β˜€οΈ Same sunshine.

# # # ⚑ Very different energy requirements.

That's why we believe solar should be **designed**, not simply sold as a package.

---

# # # πŸ‘‡ LET'S HAVE SOME FUN:

**How many solar panels do you think your home needs?**

β˜€οΈ **SOLAR SMARTS β€” DAY 5 OF 10**

# # πŸ”‹ SO… WHAT DOES THE BATTERY ACTUALLY DO?

Yesterday we brought solar home.

Today, we're meeting the part of the system that gets the **night shift**. πŸŒ™πŸ˜‚

# # # Meet the battery.

Solar panels are fantastic at one thing:

β˜€οΈ **Making electricity when the sun is shining.**

But unfortunately, the sun has never been particularly good at working overtime.

When the sun goes down, your panels stop producing solar energy.

And that's where battery storage can come in.

# # # Think of it this way:

During the day:

β˜€οΈ Solar panels produce electricity
🏠 Your home or business uses what it needs
πŸ”‹ Excess energy can be stored in the battery, depending on the system design

Later, when solar production drops:

πŸ”‹ The stored energy can be used to help power your loads.

That can be particularly useful in the evening, overnight, or during periods when grid power isn't available.

# # # But here's the bit people often get wrong…

**A bigger battery isn't automatically a better solar system.**

You don't necessarily need enough batteries to power your entire house for three days just because someone on Facebook said you do. 😏

Battery sizing depends on what you actually want the battery to do.

For example:

🏠 A home may want to keep essential appliances running during an outage.

🏒 A business may want to protect critical operations and reduce its reliance on grid electricity.

And some customers may prioritise **backup power**, while others are more interested in **using more of their own solar energy after sunset**.

Those are different requirements.

That's why we look at things such as:

⚑ Your electricity consumption
⏰ When you use electricity
πŸ”Œ Which loads are essential
πŸ”‹ How much backup you want
β˜€οΈ How much solar your system can produce
πŸ“ˆ Your future energy requirements

# # # And here's an important distinction:

**Solar panels make energy.**

**The inverter manages and converts that energy.**

**The battery stores energy for later use.**

Together, they form a much smarter energy system.

And when they're correctly sized and integrated, the result can be far more useful than simply buying the biggest battery you can afford.

# # # πŸ‘‡ NOW WE WANT TO KNOW:

If you had a battery at home tonight, what would you want it to keep running?

πŸ“Ά Wi-Fi
🧊 Fridge
πŸ’‘ Lights
πŸ“Ί TV
β˜• Kettle
❄️ Aircon
🏠 **Everything!**

And the answer might surprise you.

**DAY 6 is coming tomorrow.**

β˜€οΈ **SOLAR SMARTS β€” DAY 4 OF 10**

# # 🏠 YOUR HOUSE HAS A DAY JOB…

It works all day.

The fridge never clocks out.

The pool pump has opinions.

The geyser quietly does its thing.

The Wi-Fi router refuses to take a lunch break.

And then, just when you thought you were done…

**Someone turns on the kettle.** πŸ˜‚

Your home uses electricity throughout the day and night β€” but here's where solar becomes interesting:

# # # β˜€οΈ The sun is working while you're living your life.

A properly designed residential solar system can use that daytime sunshine to generate electricity for your home.

Instead of buying all your electricity from the grid, you can generate some of your own.

And with battery storage, excess energy can potentially be stored for use later β€” including when the sun has gone down.

That can mean:

πŸ’° **Less reliance on grid electricity**

πŸ”‹ **Backup power when the grid isn't available**

β˜€οΈ **Using your own solar energy during the day**

🏠 **Greater energy independence**

But there's something many people get wrong…

# # # **The biggest solar system isn't necessarily the best solar system.**

You don't necessarily need a mountain of panels and a battery the size of a small swimming pool. πŸ˜„

Your system should be designed around **your home and the way your family actually uses electricity.**

Things such as:

⚑ Your daily consumption
⏰ When you use electricity
❄️ Air conditioning
🚿 Geysers
🏊 Pool pumps
🍳 Cooking appliances
πŸ”‹ Your backup requirements
β˜€οΈ Your available roof space

all matter.

Because the goal isn't simply to have **more equipment**.

# # # The goal is to have the **right system**.

And that's something we'll get into later in this series.

For now, let's settle a very important debate…

# # # πŸ‘‡ WHAT WOULD YOU MISS MOST DURING A POWER OUTAGE?

πŸ“Ά Wi-Fi
β˜• The kettle
❄️ Air conditioning
πŸ“Ί The TV
🧊 The fridge
🏊 The pool pump
πŸ˜‚ Or absolutely EVERYTHING?

**Tell us in the comments.**

And if you're enjoying **Solar Smarts**, follow our page and join us for **Day 5 tomorrow**.

Tomorrow we're getting to one of the most misunderstood parts of a solar system:

# # πŸ”‹ **THE BATTERY.**

What does it actually do?

And do you really need one?

We'll find out. β˜€οΈ

β˜€οΈ **SOLAR SMARTS β€” DAY 3 OF 10** # # 🏒 YOUR BUSINESS HAS AN EMPLOYEE WHO NEVER CLOCKS OUT…It doesn't take lunch.It does...
12/09/2026

β˜€οΈ **SOLAR SMARTS β€” DAY 3 OF 10**

# # 🏒 YOUR BUSINESS HAS AN EMPLOYEE WHO NEVER CLOCKS OUT…

It doesn't take lunch.

It doesn't take leave.

It doesn't ask for a salary increase.

And unfortunately…

**It gets more expensive when it does more work.** πŸ˜‚

We're talking about **electricity**.

For a business, electricity isn't simply something you use.

It's an **operating cost**.

Think about everything that depends on it:

πŸ’‘ Lighting
❄️ Air conditioning
🧊 Refrigeration
πŸ’» Computers & servers
🚿 Geysers
πŸ’§ Pumps
βš™οΈ Machinery
🏭 Production equipment

And here's where solar gets interesting.

# # # β˜€οΈ Your business may be using the most electricity when the sun is producing the most electricity.

That's a pretty useful coincidence.

If your business operates during daylight hours, a properly designed solar PV system can generate electricity while you're actually working β€” potentially reducing the amount of electricity you need to purchase from the grid.

And batteries can add another layer by storing energy for use when solar production isn't available or when backup power is required.

But here's the important part:

# # # **More solar isn't automatically better.**

A system should be designed around the business's actual energy consumption.

A small office, restaurant, warehouse, workshop and manufacturing facility can have completely different energy profiles.

That's why we look at things like:

πŸ“Š How much electricity you use
⏰ When you use it
⚑ Your peak loads
β˜€οΈ Available solar generation
πŸ”‹ Whether battery storage makes sense
πŸ“ˆ Your future energy requirements

Because the goal isn't to cover your roof with as many panels as possible.

# # # **The goal is to make the energy system work for the business.**

And this isn't just a business story.

Tomorrow we're bringing it home…

🏠 **DAY 4 β€” WHAT CAN SOLAR ACTUALLY DO FOR YOUR HOME?**

Because your house might be using more electricity than you think. πŸ‘€

# # # πŸ‘‡ QUESTION OF THE DAY:

If you own or run a business, **what uses the most electricity?**

❄️ Air conditioning?
βš™οΈ Machinery?
πŸ’‘ Lighting?
🧊 Refrigeration?
πŸ’§ Pumps?
🀷 Something else?

Tell us below.

And if you're enjoying **Solar Smarts**, follow the page and join us tomorrow.

11/09/2026

β˜€οΈ **SOLAR SMARTS β€” DAY 2 OF 10**

# # YOUR ELECTRICITY BILL IS TELLING YOU SOMETHING…

Yesterday we asked why solar makes sense in South Africa.

Today, we're starting with the **most important piece of information when designing a solar system:**

# # # Your electricity bill. πŸ“„

And before you throw it in the drawer with all the other bills you'd rather not look at… πŸ˜‚

**It actually tells us quite a lot.**

Your electricity bill can help reveal:

⚑ **How much electricity you're using**

πŸ’° **How much you're paying for it**

πŸ“Š **How your consumption changes over time**

And when combined with information about *when* that electricity is being used, it becomes incredibly useful when designing a solar solution.

# # # Here's where it gets interesting.

A home might use plenty of electricity in the evening.

A business might use most of its electricity during working hours.

A restaurant might have refrigeration running around the clock.

A workshop might have machinery creating large power demands.

A household might have a pool pump, geyser and air conditioning adding significant loads.

**Same country. Same sunshine. Completely different solar requirements.**

That's why we don't believe in simply saying:

> β€œYou need a 10 kW system.”

**Based on what?** πŸ€”

The right solar system should be based on **your actual energy requirements**, not somebody else's roof.

And there's another important piece of the puzzle:

# # # β˜€οΈ WHEN you use electricity can be just as important as HOW MUCH you use.

That's because solar panels produce electricity during the day.

So understanding your consumption pattern helps determine how much solar energy you can use directly, how much may need to be stored in batteries, and how much electricity you may still need from the grid.

**Your electricity bill isn't just a bill.**

It's the beginning of the conversation.

# # # πŸ‘‡ TODAY'S QUESTION:

When your electricity bill arrives, what do you look at first?

πŸ’° **The amount due?**
⚑ **Your units/kWh used?**
πŸ“ˆ **The previous month's reading?**
😳 **You close your eyes and hope it goes away?**

Be honest. πŸ˜‚

**Comment below β€” we're curious.**

And if you're enjoying the series, **follow our page**.

Tomorrow, we're moving from the home to the workplace:

# # # 🏒 **DAY 3 β€” WHY SOLAR CAN BE A VERY DIFFERENT CONVERSATION FOR A BUSINESS.**

β˜€οΈ **SOLAR SMARTS β€” DAY 1 OF 10** # # WHY DOES SOLAR MAKE SENSE IN SOUTH AFRICA?Let's start with something we can probab...
10/09/2026

β˜€οΈ **SOLAR SMARTS β€” DAY 1 OF 10**

# # WHY DOES SOLAR MAKE SENSE IN SOUTH AFRICA?

Let's start with something we can probably all agree on:

**Nobody wakes up in the morning thinking, β€œI wonder how much my electricity bill is going to be this month?”** πŸ˜‚

And yet, every month that bill arrives with the confidence of someone who knows you're going to pay it anyway.

But here's the interesting part...

# # # Your electricity bill isn't just an expense.

**It's information.**

It tells you how much electricity your home or business is using β€” and that information can help determine whether solar makes financial sense for you.

β˜€οΈ **For your home**, solar can help reduce your reliance on grid electricity, provide backup when the power goes out and potentially reduce your long-term electricity costs.

🏒 **For your business**, the opportunity can be even more significant.

Electricity is an operating cost.

You're using it to run your lights, computers, refrigeration, pumps, air conditioning, machinery and everything else that keeps the business moving.

So when electricity costs rise...

**Your cost of doing business can rise with it.**

Solar gives you the opportunity to generate some of your own electricity instead of buying all of it from the grid.

But here's where things get interesting:

# # # Solar isn't simply β€œput panels on the roof and hope for the best.” 😏

A properly designed system needs to consider:

β˜€οΈ How much electricity you use
⚑ When you use it
πŸ”‹ Whether you need battery storage
🏠 Available roof space
🌀️ Your location and solar resource
πŸ“ˆ Your future energy requirements

That's why a solar system that works brilliantly for one home might be completely wrong for another.

And the same applies to businesses.

# # # So here's today's question:

If you could change **ONE thing** about your electricity situation, what would it be?

πŸ’° **Lower the bill?**
πŸ”‹ **Better backup?**
β˜€οΈ **More energy independence?**
πŸ“ˆ **More predictable energy costs?**

**Tell us in the comments. πŸ‘‡**

We're going to spend the next **10 days making solar easier to understand** β€” without the complicated jargon and sales talk.

If you want to learn something useful along the way:

# # # **Follow our page and join us for DAY 2 tomorrow. β˜€οΈ**

Because tomorrow we're talking about something every solar customer should understand:

**YOUR ELECTRICITY BILL.**

And yes...

**It has a story to tell. πŸ˜‰**
