We are generally so busy running around that we sometimes fail to notice those who make it possible for us to get through our hectic lives. Challenge yourself this week to acknowledge the beauty and presence of someone in your team or life, without whom you will be a train wreck. Just remember that the smallest most unexpected gestures, really mean-the most. Please feel free to share your tribute .

Increase to the National Minimum Wage for 2024:
According to an article by Jan du Toit on Labour Guide "Employment and Labour Minister TW Nxesi announced that the National Minimum Wage (NMW) for each ordinary hour worked will increase to R27.58 with effect from 01 March 2024.

As in previous years, the adjustment provides exceptions for several worker groups, including:

Farmworkers are entitled to a minimum wage of R27.58 per hour;
Domestic workers are entitled to a minimum wage of R27.58 per hour;
Workers employed on an expanded public works programme are entitled to a minimum wage of R15.16 per hour;
Workers who have concluded learnership agreements contemplated in section 17 of the Skills Development Act, 1998 (Act No 97 of 1998), are entitled to allowances contained in schedule 2.
It is illegal and unfair labour practice for an employer to unilaterally change working hours or other employment conditions to implement the NMW. The NMW is the amount payable for ordinary hours of work and excludes payment of allowances (such as transportation, tools, food, or lodging), payments in kind (board or lodging), tips, bonuses, and gifts."

As we embark on a new work year, let us be bold, strong, resiliant but most importantly, kind to ourselves. Let’s not waste time overanalysing last year, drawing up lists of unfinished work, or make promises to be different, more organised, more efficient. These resolutions will fade into nothingness within a few days and by end January, will be a distant memory. So let us take everyday in our stride and commit to being the best version of ourselves, for it is in this that we can give our best to work and others. Our challenge is to become habitual to celebrating small wins and achievements rather than focussing on the dreaded to-do list that grows longer everyday, serving as a constant reminder that we have not done enough, damaging our confidence and self worth. If anything, let us promise to be kind to yourselves and others. Let us embrace a positive mindset, looking for potential in roadblocks and refusing to be defeated by them. All the best for 2024. I anticipate it will be awesome, if we want it to be so. As a start to this new work year, please share a thought or action that affirms your commitment to positivity. It will surely serve as an inspiration to others.

Youth day allows us to pay tribute to the brave youth of South Africa, who took a stand to have their voices heard, advocating for a better future for all young South Africans. Unfortunately many lost their lives during the Soweto Uprising in 1976 and today we honour them in remembrance.
May we never forget their bravery.

Transforming a country cannot be left to the politicians and policy makers. It requires every one of us to make a meaningful contribution to our betterment, however big or small.

Ponder on what you can do in your space to make the change so desperately needed in our beloved country.

Happy Youth Day.
