Dear Microsoft Leadership,
As we approach March 2, 2026 – the 25th anniversary of SharePoint – we write to you not just as customers, but as community leaders that helped build your success over a quarter-century.
Twenty-five years ago, SharePoint began as a simple collaboration platform. Today, it powers millions of organizations worldwide, storing Petabytes of critical business data, enabling remote work that became essential during global challenges, and serving as the backbone for countless digital transformations.
This success story isn't just yours – it's ours together.
Yet here we stand in 2026, constrained by a 1TB default storage limit per M365 tenant that is increasingly antiquated in our data-rich world. While storage costs have plummeted and cloud infrastructure has become more efficient than ever, this limitation forces organizations to make difficult choices about what data to keep, what to archive, what to delete entirely, and forcing organizations to stop operations just to manage storage.
Consider what we've given you over these 25 years:
Hundreds of billions in licensing fees.
Invaluable feedback that shaped product development.
Case studies that helped you sell to others.
Unwavering loyalty through every version upgrade and platform migration you've asked of us.
We've been your beta testers, your advocates, and your foundation for growth.
SharePoint's success – and by extension, Microsoft's cloud dominance – exists because of our collective investment in your vision.
We ask you to increase the default M365 tenant storage globally to 5TB effective March 2, 2026.
The math is simple: increasing the default tenant storage from 1TB to 5TB would cost Microsoft relatively little in general cloud economics; but would demonstrate genuine appreciation for the community that made SharePoint the success it is today. This isn't about asking for charity – it's about recognizing that after 25 years of profitable partnership, it's time to share some of that success back with the users who created it.
As you celebrate SharePoint's silver anniversary, we ask you to mark this milestone not just with press releases and feature announcements, but with a meaningful gift to the community that made it all possible.
Twenty-five years of partnership deserves recognition.
Twenty-five years of trust deserves reciprocation.
Twenty-five years of shared success deserves sharing the benefits.
The SharePoint community has been with you for 25 years. Now we're asking: will you be with us? We invite Microsoft to demonstrate that customer loyalty is a two-way street, and that sometimes the best business decision is simply the right thing to do.
We call upon Microsoft MVPs and Partners worldwide to join us in this request. You are the voices Microsoft listens to most closely – the technical experts, consultants, and implementers who have spent decades evangelizing SharePoint to organizations around the globe.
Your clients face these storage limitations daily. Your recommendations have driven countless SharePoint adoptions. Your expertise has solved problems that made SharePoint stronger.
If anyone understands both the technical feasibility and business impact of this request, it's you. Help Microsoft understand that this isn't just about storage – it's about removing barriers to digital transformation for organizations that deserve better than constant storage management overhead.
Together, our voices carry the weight of 25 years of shared success.
Respectfully,
Veronique Palmer
