The Inspector General Of Malawi Police Services.
Dear madam IG
I write to you today as a concerned citizen, and representative of the opposition bench. I appeal to your sense of democracy and justice to address the recent arrests of our party members, MR Kamulepo Kaluwa and The president of disadvantaged majority Hon Bon Kalindo.
While we understand that the reasons for their arrest may be deemed constitutional, we believe that their detention is a clear infringement on their rights and an attempt to stifle our party's voice. We urge you to reconsider their detention and ensure that their rights, as enshrined in our constitution, are respected.
We request that your government as well as our government:
1. Immediately releases our party members from custody.
2. Respects the rights of the opposition to assemble, associate, and express ourselves freely.
3. Engages in a constructive dialogue to address our concerns and work towards strengthening our democracy.
We know and understand the importance of security and diversity which we are proud of but driving over the limit would not make Malawi comfortable at all.
We believe that a democratic government should embrace diversity, inclusivity, and the rule of law. We hope that your administration will take our request seriously and work towards creating a more inclusive and democratic environment for all citizens.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Dr. Edward Juma Phiri.
