💼 South Africans Can Pay Less Tax — Legally & Smartly 💼

Most people think tax is complicated — and it is. But with the right guidance, you can reduce your tax bill while staying fully compliant with SARS.

📊 Here’s how smart taxpayers are saving money:
- Retirement contributions: Deduct up to 27.5% of taxable income (capped at R350,000 annually).
- Medical credits: Monthly credits plus deductions for qualifying medical expenses.
- Business expenses: Claim costs like rent, salaries, and equipment.
- Travel allowances: Properly recorded mileage can reduce taxable income.
- Tax‑free investments: Invest up to R36,000 per year (R500,000 lifetime) without paying tax.
- Education bursaries: Certain training and bursaries qualify for deductions.

⚠️ But beware: SARS is increasing audits. Incorrect claims can lead to penalties and interest.

That’s where Ahmed M & Associates comes in. We don’t just crunch numbers — we guide you through the tax journey, making sure you save money while staying compliant.

🚨 SARS Turns Up the Heat on Employers 🚨

SARS is intensifying its crackdown on payroll tax non‑compliance — and office‑based employees with fuel cards, travel allowances, and company car benefits are at the center of this enforcement drive.

🔍 What SARS is targeting:Travel allowances: Inflated mileage claims and misuse of logbooks, especially for office staff who seldom travel for work.Fuel cards: Issuing fuel cards alongside travel allowances is being flagged as non‑compliant.Company cars: Incorrect valuation of private use remains a major audit trigger.ETI abuse: Over 330 employers implicated in improper claims.

💡 Why it matters:
Penalties can reach 200% plus backdated interest, crippling businesses financially and reputationally. SARS expects employers to fix historical errors, not just future compliance.

✅ Our advice at Ahmed M and Associates:
Now is the time to audit your payroll compliance. If risks exist, the Voluntary Disclosure Programme (VDP) may be your best option before SARS comes knocking

SARS has officially gazetted the rules for the 2026 tax season, and the good news is that many individuals with straightforward finances may not need to file a return this year.

📅 Key Deadlines:
🔹 Individual taxpayers — 23 October 2026
🔹 Provisional taxpayers & trusts — 22 January 2027

✅ You may be exempt from filing if your income is only from:
→ A single employer salary under R500,000 (with correct PAYE deducted)
→ SA interest within set limits — R23,800 (under 65) | R34,500 (65 and older)
→ Tax-free investments or a single retirement lump sum
→ Exempt dividends (non-residents)

⚠️ Important: The exemption falls away the moment you have travel allowances, taxable fringe benefits, or income from services rendered outside South Africa — even if everything else qualifies.

Taxpayers selected for an automatic assessment also don't need to file manually — SARS will notify you in writing.
Not sure whether you need to file? Don't leave it to chance. 💼

🚨 SARS IS WATCHING – INFLUENCERS BE WARNED 🚨

SARS has launched a R513 billion tax crackdown, and influencers are firmly in the spotlight. Remember this: FREEBIES ARE NOT FREE.

If you’ve received:

Free products, trips, or meals,

Brand deals or sponsorships,

Any “in-kind” payment for exposure,

…it is ALL taxable income.

Failing to declare it could cost you:

Penalties of R250 – R16 000 PER MONTH,

Criminal charges for non-compliance,

Interest on unpaid taxes.

SARS is using AI and advanced data tracking to catch offenders. Thinking you’ll slip through the cracks? Think again.

⚠️ This is not optional. Declare it, or SARS will find you. ⚠️

👉 Don’t take chances with your future. Contact Ahmed M and Associates today for professional tax assistance.

🇿🇦 SARS 2025 Tax Update: Crucial for Non-Residents AND SA Residents

SARS has announced major changes for the 2025 tax season, especially for non-resident taxpayers — but also reminds residents of their full tax responsibilities.

📌 NON-RESIDENTS: New Filing Steps

If you’re living abroad but earning from SA, SARS now requires you to manually activate the Non-Resident Tax Return Type:

1. Go to the SARS Online Query System (SOQS)

2. Select Non-Resident Tax Return Type

3. Submit your ID/Passport details, confirm OTP, and choose the 2025 tax year

4. Your return will be reformatted accordingly

✅ Once submitted, your profile stays flagged as non-resident — unless your status changes.

📌 Permanent update coming: SARS plans to fully integrate this into the eFiling wizard in future seasons.

🧾 What Non-Residents Must Pay Tax On:

SA-based salaries or consulting income

SA pensions or annuities

SA rental income

SA interest (with 15% withholding tax if applicable)

SA dividends (20% tax, sometimes reduced by treaties)

Royalties (usually 15%)

---

📌 RESIDENTS: Reminder on Global Income

If you're a South African resident, SARS taxes you on your worldwide income, including:

Local + foreign employment income

Offshore investments and capital gains

Foreign pensions, rental income, and interest

SARS receives third-party data from banks, employers, and institutions worldwide — non-disclosure can lead to penalties.

---

Whether you’re living in South Africa or abroad, Ahmed M and Associates will assist you with:
