STOP THE FRAUD, CORRUPTION AND SHODDY WORK - DELIVER QUALITY WATER TO ETHEKWINI

To: All Political Parties, Political Leaders, eThekwini Water Management Team and All Staff

*ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. LET'S GET SERIOUS ABOUT WATER.*

The people of eThekwini are tired of excuses, dry taps, leaks, and dirty water. Your job is to deliver *high-quality, purified water* to our people and our city. That is your ONLY job.

*WE DEMAND THESE CHANGES IMMEDIATELY:*

*1. STOP FRAUD, CORRUPTION AND SHODDY WORK*
No more sub-standard pipes. No more patchwork repairs that leak again in 3 days. Do honest work, do it 100% right the first time.

*2. TRAIN EVERYONE TO THE HIGHEST SKILL LEVEL*
Stop deploying unskilled people. Train your staff properly - in the field, not just on paper.

*3. STOP THE PLUMBERS TEST - IT IS A GATEKEEPING TOOL*
That test keeps certain people out of jobs. Anyone can memorize answers and pass, but they have NO practical skills to do the plumbing work. We need *practical skills tests*, not paper tests. If a man can fix a leak properly, he is a plumber. Period.

*4. MAKE WATER CHEAPER AND FAIR - EVERYONE MUST PAY*
Let's get serious - get water to everyone at a cheaper and fair price. And *everyone must pay for water*. No free rides. If everyone pays fairly, the price can come down for everyone.

*5. GET RID OF PLUMBING CONTRACTORS*
We are tired of contractors who do shoddy work and charge millions. Build internal capacity. Use our own people.

*6. DIVIDE ETHEKWINI WATER INTO 4 REGIONS*
Manage it properly. 4 regions, 4 managers, 4 accountable teams. Smaller regions mean faster response and better service.

*7. STOP OVERTIME - IT IS BEING ABUSED*
No more overtime. Overtime is abused and is a tool for corruption. Instead, *employ 3 or 4 shifts* - whatever is best for eThekwini. Create more jobs and deliver 24-hour service.

*A Word to the People of Wentworth 🙏

Family of Wentworth,

It’s time.
*It’s time for Wentworth community leaders to come together as one.*

God did not place us in Wentworth by accident. He planted us here, on this soil, for such a time as this. _Ecclesiastes 4:9_ says, _“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor.”_ When we stand divided, we build slowly. When we stand together, we build legacy.

*Wentworth, we are called to build.*
Let us come together and demarcate areas in our community to build facilities that will benefit every child, every parent, every elder.

Imagine a Wentworth where:
- We have *a shopping mall* where our money circulates in our community
- *A banking mall* so our businesses can grow with dignity
- *An industrial section* that creates jobs for our youth
- *A service center for transport* that connects us safely
- *A fruit and vegetable market* where our farmers and traders can feed the nation

*Wentworth, we are called to share.*
Let Wentworth be divided into equal parts so *Spaza shops* can be erected to service every street. No area left behind. No family forgotten.

Let every road allocate *an informal traders table* for someone to operate. Because when one of us eats, we all eat. When one of us rises, we all rise. _Galatians 6:2_ — _“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”_

Leaders, business owners, mothers, youth, elders...
*Wentworth must work together as one.* Not by tribe, not by street, not by politics. But as children of God, as one community, with one vision.

The bricks are in our hands. The land is ours. The time is now.

Let’s stop waiting for someone else to build Wentworth.
*Let’s build it together. For us. By us. With God.*

*TO ALL SOUTH AFRICANS - FROM DURBAN TO THE NATION*

We can’t keep living in J Section and Unit 7… but fight over what to call the street outside.

*Hear me:*

Apartheid gave us J Section, K Section, Unit 1 to 25. It gave us townships with no trees, schools with no labs, homes with no deeds. It sorted us like cattle into “locations” and told us _that_ was our place.

And 30 years later? Many of us still introduce ourselves that way.
_“I’m from J Section.”_
_“She stays Unit 7.”_
_“Meet me by the hostel in Umlazi C.”_

Yet we’ll march to change a road name from Smith Street to Solomon Mahlangu Drive. We’ll burn tyres over a statue. We’ll debate city names for months.

*Brothers and sisters, we’ve got it backwards.*

You cannot be free in your spirit while still living in Apartheid’s floor plan.

*Changing names without changing lives is painting a jail cell.*
It looks new. But you’re still locked inside.

*SO WHAT NOW?*

1. *Change the Section before you change the Sign*
Don’t just rename Sandton Drive. Build a Durban where a child in J Section has the same shot as a child in uMhlanga. Same schools. Same safety. Same dignity. _Then_ name it what you want.

2. *Own your address, not Apartheid’s label*
Tell your kids: “We live in _Umlazi, KwaMnyandu_. Not Unit 17.”
“I’m from _Chesterville_. Not C Section.”
“My home is _KwaMashu_, not K Section.”
Names have power. Stop letting 1950 call you by its numbers.

3. *Build before you brand*
Before we argue if it’s Port Elizabeth or Gqeberha — fix the pipes so mothers in KwaZakhele have water.
Before we fight over Jan Smuts — make sure Jan’s great-grandson and Sipho’s grandson can both get jobs in that airport.
_Substance, then symbols._

4. *Be uncomfortable with the real Apartheid leftovers*
Be uncomfortable that 2026 still has pit toilets in Limpopo schools.
Be uncomfortable that “township” still means 45min taxi + R30 fare just to reach work.
Be uncomfortable that your granny still has no title deed, but the road got a new name last week.
_That’s_ the Apartheid we should lose sleep over.

*SOUTH AFRICA, LISTEN:*

Our grandparents fought to live _where_ they chose.
Our parents fought to vote _how_ they chose.
Our fight now? To live _how_ we choose. With dignity, not digits. With addresses, not Sections.

So yes — name the streets after heroes. Honor the struggle. But don’t let the name change be the _only_ change.

*Because freedom isn’t a new signboard. Freedom is when a child in J Section can say:*
_“I live in Umlazi, on Oliver Tambo Road, in a house my father owns, going to a school with wifi, dreaming of becoming president.”_

*That’s when Apartheid is finally dead.*
Not when we paint over it. When we build over it.

From J Section to Unit 7 to Sandton to Constantia — *I LOVE MY PEOPLE.*
Let’s get uncomfortable with the _right_ things. Then let’s build.

The South African Human Rights Commission*
*From: Concerned South Africans*

We write with urgency, not anger.

For years we asked: “Where is the Human Rights Commission?” Many South Africans didn’t even know you existed until you appeared in the news. That alone is a problem. A watchdog people can’t see cannot protect them.

*Our question is simple:*
Why have you not taken municipalities to court for overcharging citizens for water and electricity — a basic human right under Section 27 of our Constitution?
Why have you not initiated legal action against government for the non-delivery of houses, the collapse of healthcare, the failure of education, fraud, corruption, and the daily threat to safety and security of our people and their property?

These are not political issues. They are human rights violations. Every day without water is a violation. Every child in an unsafe school is a violation. Every pensioner choosing between lights and food is a violation.

Yet we see legal action initiated swiftly against *Madam Jacinta and her associates* concerning xenophobic assaults on foreign nationals. We do not excuse violence against anyone. Every life is protected by the Constitution. But South Africans are asking: _Why the speed there, and silence here?_

*Our demand is clear:*
South Africans need the Human Rights Commission to address municipal overcharging, failed service delivery, corruption, and insecurity with the same urgency, resources, and court action. Not reports. Not workshops. Court action. Now.

You were created by Chapter 9 of the Constitution to promote, protect, and monitor human rights. Do that job for _all_ South Africans, without fear or favour. We are watching. We are waiting. We expect action, immediately.

The Constitution belongs to us all. Make it work for us all.
