It’s quite rare for me to catch my tristis female outside of her log, so I was blown away by how much she has grown since I last caught her basking. But how awesome are these spots on her!! **petoculture 🦎 ❤️ 🇦🇺

A few months back I shot down the rabbit hole and into the world of monitors by getting my hands on a Black headed monitor, Varanus tristis tristis. What an eye opening experience this has been and an amazing learning curve to develop a bond with this beautiful animal. They are constantly evaluating every move you make, even down to your eye movement. She was skittish and would dart off at the earliest sign of people approaching in the beginning, and I have gradually built up her trust that I’m not going to eat her. So it’s an absolute honour to be able to get a close up photo of her coming down to eat a fresh batch of crickets. This day I managed to actually hand feed her which is a special moment for most monitor keepers with skittish animals. I have a new enclosure build going on so I will be dropping some updates as I go along. 🦎 🇦🇺 ❤️

Dusted off the camera gear, ripped out the wide angle lens and slapped on my diffuser to get a shot of this new born common/Eastern blue tongue skink that was rescued by my wife. It’s easy to see why these guys are a favourite in the pet trade as they are full of character and wobble around like a sausage with legs. **ps

I’ve started exploring the wider side of photography recently and I must say, it presents some challenges but also feels very rewarding. This was a shot a took yesterday as the sun set across Lake Macquarie at a spot called Pelican Foreshores. There’s something magical watching the day come to an end as you watch the different colours emerge while the sun slowly comes to rest.

Wolf spider, Venatrix furcillata. Newcastle,NSW. (If my spider people out there can confirm this species for me, I’ll be so appreciative). This little fella was hiding in my garage and decided to make me scream like a girl when I moved my swag. Many of you know, I’m a snake guy, not a spider guy. But by the time I finished photographing this (with my diffuser of course😉), The spider and I were friends..… sort of.

I was quite stoked when this 2cm Eastern dwarf frog, Litoria fallax, hopped out of some long grass today. For such a small frog, they certainly cover a lot of distance when they jump. My diffuser came to the party once again and I’ll be raving about this well crafted diffuser for quite some time. 🐸❤️🇦🇺

Recently I joined the macro photography world and bought a Nikon 60mm macro lens. Now with macro shots, a great diffuser is needed. My mate referred me to diffusers and life behind the lens just gets so much better. I found this creature, which I believe is the gum leaf katydid, Torbia viridissima (if I am wrong, please drop the correct name in the comments😉). One of the impressive things about these guys is the super long antennae in comparison to their body. I honestly don’t have much more knowledge on this species but it made for a great macro subject before I headed out. 🇦🇺🦗 📸

Happy world snake day!!!

This is just a few of my favourite shots to highlight the beauty of these amazing animals. Surrounded by myth and folklore ,these beautiful animals are still feared and very often persecuted. Whether they are venomous or not, they play an important roll in all of our lives.

Golden Crowned Snake - Cacophis squamulosus. From Warners Bay, NSW. Australia. I can’t help but be amazed at close these mildly venomous elapids resemble the Pygmy Wolf Snake, Lycophidion pygmaeum. They have a lot of heart when confronted and get up in the typical Aussie elapid fashion as seen in this photo, but are reluctant to bite. 🇦🇺❤️🐍

Head that way👆🏼

I had a good afternoon releasing a couple of diamond pythons that my mate rescued recently. It’s amazing to see how well they vanish into the forest with their amazing camouflage. Such cool snakes with an amazing disposition, although I reckon on the hot days, these guys could have a good swing at you. 🐍❤️🇦🇺

Eastern Striped Skink - Ctenotus robustus. Newcastle, NSW. Australia.

So I was at work one afternoon and this little guy came darting in to my workshop. The non reptile guys I worked with thought I’d gone off my head as I dived over my bench and proceeded to crash over equipment trying to catch this little guy. The first thing I noticed was it’s incredibly long, slender tail(but how’s those toes too!!). After a few photos, this little one went off on its way to cause havoc for ants and other little invertebrates that they feed on. Yet another beautiful common h**p to add to my list of finds. 🦎❤️ 🇦🇺
