𝗩𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸 – 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗕𝗗

On 30 May 2026 at approximately 15h00, 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 received a report of a vehicle collision at the corner of 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹 and 𝗗𝗿 𝗣𝗶𝘅𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗞𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁, where a car drove into the roller shutter and glass door of a 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸 branch before coming to a rest inside the bank, causing significant damage.

The impact resulted in damage to the bank’s entrance, prompting immediate response from Ensure Security teams.

Ensure Security Tactical Response Teams attended the scene alongside 𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦 and 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲. Fortunately the branch was closed at the time of the crash, and no staff or customers were inside the premises when the impact occurred. The driver was transported to hospital for medical evaluation before being taken into police custody for further processing.

The 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰 branch manager arrived to oversee the situation, secure assets, and arrange for additional guarding services. A maintenance team was deployed to implement temporary measures to close and secure the premises until full repairs can be completed.

The driver of the vehicle was suspected to be under the influence, but the full circumstances surrounding the crash will be investigated by 𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦.

On 28 May 2026 at approximately 05h50, 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 responded to a motor vehicle collision on 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝘂𝘀 𝗡𝘆𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 opposite 𝗛𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗮 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲.

A vehicle struck a pedestrian, who sustained serious injuries at the scene. 𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦 and 𝗞𝗭𝗠 𝗘𝗠𝗦 attended promptly, with paramedics stabilising the patient before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 commends the swift response of emergency services, and extends best wishes to the injured pedestrian for a speedy recovery.

𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗵

Sergeant 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗮 𝗞𝗵𝘂𝘇𝘄𝗮𝘆𝗼 has tragically died in hospital, weeks after being critically wounded in the Mount Edgecombe ambush that also claimed the life of Captain 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝗹. 𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦 has condemned the attack as a direct assault on the state and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.

On 30 April 2026, Captain Nel and Sergeant Khuzwayo, both attached to the 𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁, were travelling in an unmarked state vehicle in Mount Edgecombe, north of Durban. They were ambushed by heavily armed suspects, who opened fire in a targeted attack. Captain Nel died at the scene, while Sergeant Khuzwayo was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

On 25 May 2026, 𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦 confirmed that Sergeant Khuzwayo succumbed to his injuries after nearly a month in hospital.

Acting National Commissioner 𝗟𝗶𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗲 expressed condolences, calling the attack a “painful reminder of the dangers our members face daily in the ex*****on of their duties.”

She condemned the continued killings of police officers as a direct assault on the authority of the state and reaffirmed SAPS’ commitment to intensifying measures to protect officers.

A dedicated investigative team remains deployed, following all possible leads to track down the perpetrators.

Captain Nel was laid to rest on 8 May 2026 in Durban, at a funeral attended by provincial leaders, colleagues, and family.

The deaths of Captain Nel and Sergeant Khuzwayo mark a devastating loss for SAPS Crime Intelligence and the broader policing community. Their sacrifice underscores the risks faced by officers combating organised crime. 𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦 has vowed that “we will not rest until those behind this senseless attack are found and prosecuted.”

𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗩𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗳𝘁 – 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗕𝗗

On 26 May 2026 at approximately 08h00, 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 Tactical Units observed two individuals exchanging a car battery near the circle of 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 and 𝗝𝗼𝗲 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁.

When questioned, the suspects claimed the battery had been taken from the 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝗩𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲.

Our officers escorted the suspects to the impound centre to verify their account. Staff and security personnel at the centre denied that the suspects had entered the facility, indicating that the battery was likely stolen elsewhere. 𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦 was contacted and dispatched a team to the scene.

Members of 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦 arrived shortly thereafter and took both suspects into custody for further investigation.

We commend our team for their vigilance in detecting suspicious activity and coordinating with SAPS to address theft‑related offences in the CBD.

On the morning of 25 May 2026, the 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗗𝗠𝗣𝗦), working together with the 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦), conducted a joint operation targeting illegal immigration and compliance enforcement across multiple business premises in the city. 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 was invited to support the operation, providing additional manpower and coordination.

During the operation, several shops were found closed. Law enforcement agencies will continue monitoring these premises and conduct follow‑up inspections once operations resume. Importantly, several arrests were made in connection with immigration violations and non‑compliance.

The operation focused on verifying business ownership and management structures, legal documentation of business operators and employees, compliance with immigration laws and municipal by‑laws.

Further operations are set to continue across Durban as part of ongoing crime prevention and by‑law enforcement initiatives.

𝗧𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗴𝗼𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘆 – 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗕𝗗

On 24 May 2026 at approximately 06h30, 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 Tactical Response Teams observed a young male victim who had sustained a stab wound to his hand following a robbery near the intersection of 𝗗𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 and 𝗗𝗿 𝗣𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗞𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁.

The victim reported that three homeless individuals had attacked him while he was on his way to church, stabbing him and stealing his cellphone before fleeing towards 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 and 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁.

Ensure Security officers immediately pursued the suspects. During the chase, the suspects dropped the stolen cellphone, which was recovered by the team, before escaping further down 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗽𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱.

The injured teenager was transported to hospital for medical treatment by acquaintances, and 𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦 was notified for further investigation.

We commend the swift response of our officers and wish the victim a speedy recovery.

On 23 May 2026 at approximately 02h15, 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 Tactical Response Teams, patrolling near City Hall on Smith Street, observed a suspect carrying a car battery near a hotel in the CBD.

The suspect was stopped and questioned regarding the battery. He attempted to flee on foot but was pursued by Security Officers and successfully apprehended in a nearby alley off 𝗗𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗡𝘆𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁.

The suspect was escorted back to City Hall for further questioning. Our members were directed to South Beach Avenue, where the suspect pointed out a vehicle from which the battery had allegedly been stolen. Efforts to locate the vehicle’s owner were unsuccessful.

𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦 was contacted and arrived on scene to take over the matter. The recovered battery was secured with building security to be returned to the rightful owner.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻 𝗩𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗱 – 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗲

On 20 May 2026 at approximately 20h20, 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆’𝘀 monitoring system flagged a vehicle of concern through its ANPR cameras. The vehicle, a white Toyota Quantum, was identified as stolen and linked to a police case registered in Midrand.

Upon receiving the alert, Ensure Security teams were immediately dispatched to the location. The vehicle was located in the parking area, and law enforcement was notified.

Security teams coordinated with 𝗦𝗔𝗣𝗦 units, who arrived on scene to assist. Following discussions with the driver, the vehicle was impounded and taken to the police station for further investigation.
