The latest edition of FIA Insight is now available, bringing together perspectives from across South Africa’s insurance and financial services industry.

This quarter explores what it takes to build resilient, future-ready advisory businesses in an environment where risk, regulation and client expectations continue to evolve. From the growing importance of trust and face-to-face advice to emerging risks shaped by AI, climate change and technology, contributors unpack the issues influencing both intermediaries and their clients.

The edition also looks at practical challenges across the industry, including construction and fire risk, agricultural insurance, healthcare, premium collections and specialist insurance, alongside perspectives on business growth, client relationships and the changing role of advice.

Closer to home, we share the progress of FIA Impact, a new initiative in partnership with Global Choices, turning community care into practical, local action, with Tygerberg, Southern Cape and other branches already underway. President Cyril Ramaphosa sets out the importance of expanding agriculture and agro-processing as Phase 3 of the
Government-Business Partnership broadens its focus to sectors with significant potential to attract investment, strengthen production and create jobs.

The next phase will address constraints relating to water, transport, biosecurity, agricultural finance and access to markets, while supporting competitive agro-processing value chains and accelerating land reform.

EXPORT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES

The Next-Gen Exporter Incubation Programme is a 12-month structured export incubation and market-entry programme aimed at equipping youth-owned businesses with the exporting skills, resources, and support required to become successful first-time exporters.

Designed specifically for youth-led enterprises with high export potential, the programme supports participants in achieving export readiness through a structured development journey.
Key focus areas include export
capacity-building, market access facilitation, compliance and certification, technical expert advisory, and links to finance instruments.

The programme also aims to leverage strategic trade opportunities offered through trade agreements such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfFTA), SADC, AGOA, the EU-SADC Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), SACUM-UK EPA, BRICS+.
Special emphasis is placed on supporting participants leverage on digital trade, digital platforms, and green technology-enabled solutions to expand global reach.
