🌍 As Earth Month Ends – A Moment for Reflection

As we wrap up Earth Month, it’s a valuable time for organisations to pause and reflect on how sustainability, governance, and resilience are being embedded into everyday decision‑making — not as standalone initiatives, but as part of how we operate.

As we move further into 2026, updated ISO standards are beginning to emerge, alongside growing expectations around environmental responsibility, organisational wellbeing, and structured management systems.

There’s been a lot of talk about oil and gas off our coast and in the Karoo — so here’s a simple breakdown of why drilling applications keep getting blocked in South Africa 🇿🇦

Yes, we DO have potential resources:📍 Offshore in the Outeniqua Basin📍 Onshore in the Karoo

Companies like TotalEnergies and Shell have already identified promising areas.

BUT… drilling isn’t being stopped because there’s no oil or gas.

👉 It’s being blocked mainly by our courts.

Recently, the Western Cape High Court set aside approvals for offshore drilling — not because drilling is banned, but because the process wasn’t done properly.

⚖️ What went wrong?• Environmental impact studies were incomplete• Climate change impacts weren’t properly considered• Coastal communities weren’t meaningfully consulted• Risks (like oil spills) weren’t fully assessed

🌍 South Africa actually has some of the strongest environmental protections in the world, including laws like:• National Environmental Management Act (NEMA)• Coastal management legislation

And the courts are enforcing them.

🐟 Communities — especially small-scale fishers — are also pushing back, raising real concerns about:• Livelihoods• Marine ecosystems• Food security

📌 The key thing to understand:These projects are NOT permanently cancelled.

They’re being sent back with a clear message:👉 “Do it properly, or don’t do it at all.”

So right now, we’re sitting in a tension between:⚡ The need for energy and economic growth🌱 The need to protect our environment and communities

It’s not a simple yes/no issue — it’s about HOW it’s done.

👇 What do you think? Is South Africa protecting its future… or missing a massive opportunity?

⚠️ SCAM ALERT – Please be careful ⚠️

At 13h45 today I received a call from someone claiming to be from Cape Town International Airport. The person identified himself as “Romeo Cooper” (Staff number 376CPT283).

He asked me to confirm that I, Megan Cunningham, was shipping a parcel to Shaun Carter in Robinvale, Victoria, Australia (Parcel number: CPI900069).

They claimed the parcel contained:
ATM cards
Passports
Clothing
31 SIM cards
140g M**A

I was told that the parcel had been stopped and that I must report to the Green Point charge office and open a fraud case, otherwise I could face 15 years in prison. I was also told I needed to obtain two clearance certificates.

After doing some research, it’s clear that this is a scam that has been circulating, where callers pretend to be airport officials or courier authorities to frighten people into providing personal information or paying money.

The caller referenced Seven Seas Worldwide and said the parcel was stopped on 13 March 2026, but I have never shipped any parcel like this.

🚨 Please be aware:

Do not provide personal information to callers like this.
Do not pay any “fees” or “clearance certificates.”
Always verify directly with official authorities.
I’m sharing this so others are aware and don’t fall victim to the same scam. Please share this post so more people can be warned.

Stay safe everyone.

🌍 More Than Compliance: Why ISO, the Triple Bottom Line & ESG Matter 🌍

In today’s business environment, success is no longer measured by profit alone.

🔹 ISO Standards provide trusted, internationally recognised frameworks that help organisations operate efficiently, safely, and consistently — building credibility with clients, regulators, and stakeholders.

🔹 The Triple Bottom Line reminds us that sustainable organisations focus on People, Planet, and Profit — balancing financial performance with social responsibility and environmental care.

🔹 ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) has become a critical lens for investors, customers, and partners. Strong ESG practices demonstrate ethical leadership, sound risk management, and long-term resilience.

Together, ISO, the Triple Bottom Line, and ESG are not “tick-box exercises” — they are strategic tools that: ✔ Strengthen governance
✔ Reduce risk
✔ Build trust
✔ Support sustainable growth

At Risk Group, we believe organisations that embrace these principles are better prepared for the future — and better positioned to make a meaningful impact.

📈 Sustainability is no longer optional. It is smart business.
