🔐 You can pass ISO 27001 and still be breached through your payroll bureau.
Verizon's 2026 Data Breach Investigations Report found a third party involved in 48% of breaches, up from 30% the year before. Attackers go where the effort is lowest. If your own defences are solid, a smaller supplier with weaker controls and trusted access to your data is the easier way in.
ISO 27001 already asks about this. Its supplier controls mean an auditor will ask you three things 👇
✅ How you decide which suppliers matter ✅ What you require of them ✅ How you know they are meeting it
Third-party risk management answers all three with evidence. It ranks your vendors, checks the ones that handle your data, monitors them continuously and follows up on every gap. Run it alongside ISO 27001 and you keep one supplier list, one risk register and one set of evidence.
Start by listing your suppliers and marking the five or ten that hold your data or can log in to your systems. That list is the beginning of your supplier inventory.
We do both with one team, including continuous supplier monitoring as an approved Panorays MSSP partner. If ISO 27001 is on your 2027 plan, book a gap assessment: [email protected]
