BUFFALO CITY WATER UPDATES: 13 March 2022
Dear Buffalo City residents,
We are aware that there are still areas not receiving water.
Unfortunately, reports that we are receiving indicate that there’s still little or no pumping by Amatola Water Board at their Water Treatment Works. This is due to the ongoing strike by Amatola Water Board employees.
This affects huge areas in the Metro as the radius covers over almost 60 percent of the region.
AFFECTED AREAS:
Whilst some of these areas might be getting water minimally, they will at some point be affected as they are supplied by the Amatola Water Board:
1. Midland areas:
Mdantsane areas, Reeston, all Nxarhuni villages, Berlin Town, all Berlin rural areas, Msintsini, Khayelitsha, Potsdam, and Macleantown.
2. Coastal areas:
all Needscamp villages, Ncera villages, Kaysers Beach, all Tsholomnqa villages, Kuni villages, Twecu,Hill, Moni, Kiddsbeach, Sunny South, Cornfields, Gwiligwili.
3. Inland areas:
all Inland villages, Bisho, Zwelitsha, Sweetwaters, Phakamisa, Ndevana, Schornville, Dimbaza, Phola Park, Mt Coke villages
LATEST FEEDBACK:
We are engaging with the Amatola Water Board leadership for a speedy solution.
In our latest feedback from them this morning, it has been reported that engagements are now at Ministers level and the Amatola Water Board management will be getting a brief at 14:00.
This situation is highly regrettable. We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience.
The Municipality is putting all its efforts to cart and dispatch water tankers to affected areas continuously.
Consumers are requested to use water sparingly during this period to reduce demand as we continue redistributing supply from our own reserves.
HELP US BY REDUCING USAGE
In line with the Municipal operating procedures of stage 2 water restrictions, we ask that residents play their part by observing restrictions. These include the following:
No swimming pools can be emptied, topped up or refilled; Water tanks must be filled up with non-portable water; Gardens and lawns must be watered with with non-portable water on prescribed time periods; Use of Municipal water on private ponds and fountains is prohibited; Washing of vehicles/ boats is only allowed using buckets; Commercial car washing businesses must comply with industry best practices and stage 2 water restrictions; No washing of buildings and windows unless necessary.
