AFCFTA, the largest global free trade area by countries participating, could transform the continent’s
economic prospects. The agreement aims to reduce all trade costs and enable Africa integrate
further into global supply chain. It will eliminate 90% of tariffs, focus on outstanding non-tariff
barriers, and create a single market free movement of goods and services.
Join the panel as they discuss the AfCFTA implications and opportunities, the AfCFTA negotiation and
implementation and the future opportunities presented by the AfCFTA.

👨🏿‍💼SPEAKER Announcement Dr Sifiso Ntombela - Chief Economist- National Agricultural Marketing Council

✅TOPIC- Real opportunities and Future Potential

Dr Sifiso is an economist with a phd in agricultural Economics from the University of Pretoria. He currently works at the National Agricultural Marketing Council as Chief Economist responsible for Trade and Economic Modelling. Dr Sifiso is a regular commentator on Economic Matters on Radio and TV. He is a Columnist in Farmers Weekly and Fin24. He is also a research fellow at the school of Public management and administration at the University of Pretoria. Dr Sifiso currently leads a team researching and drafting the agricultural and agro processing master plan as well as the Land and Agrarian strategy for the newly merged department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development.

👨🏿‍💼SPEAKER Announcement - Malose Letsoalo - Minister Economic Embassy of South Africa Washington DC

Mr Malose has been serving as Minister(Economic) at the Embassy of South Arica in Washington DC, representing the Department of Trade and Industry for the last four years. His main responsibility is the implementation of the Trade and Exporty policy and investment promotion of South African priority growth sectors.

Mr Malose has over 16 years of experience in the trade policy space and has been involved, amongst others for the South African- United States trade and Investment Framework Agreement and the trade and investment relations with Chile,Brazil ,Argentina, Mexico and Canada. Mr Malose holds a BSc in Agriculture Economics from the University of Pretoria, A post Graduate Diploma from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town, and a MCom in Development Theory from the University of the Witwatersrand.

👨🏿‍💼SPEAKER Announcement - Wamkele Mene - Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

✅TOPIC - AfCFTA Implications for African Countries and Opportunities

Mr Wamkele Mene is the elected Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area that become active in January 2021. With his direct involvement, he is best equipped to unpack the agreement and share his first-hand knowledge of the single market across 54 countries providing for free movement of business travellers and investment through one unified customs union.

Mr Wamkele has previously served as the Chief Director of African Economic Relations at the Department of Trade and Industry of South Africa. He was also Director of the International Trade Law and Investment at the Department of Trade and Industry. Mr Wamkele also represented South Africa at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Prior to Joining government, Mr Wamkele worked for prominent law firms in London and Hong Kong.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Law) degree from Rhodes University in South Africa, a Master of Arts in International Studies in Diploma (With Specialisation in international Economics) From the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) University of London and a LL.M (Masters of Law) in Banking Law and Financial Regulation from the Law Department of the London School of Economics and Political Studies (LSE)

✅TOPIC - AfCFTA Negotiations and Implementation

Trudi Hartzenburg tireless and unwavering efforts to improve Africa trade performance has seen her work closely with governments, regional, continental and international organizations such as the African Union Commission and World Trade Organization. Ms Hartzenburg is an Economist with special interest in Economic Policy Matters, specifically international trade, industrial and competition policy.

She brings a vats knowledge in Trade and Investment as well as unpacking specific policy matters that matter in trading and most importantly the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

Ms Hartzenburg currently works as an Executive Director under Trade Law Centre. Among her recents strides is work on Africas Trade and integration agenda in the context of the global trade governance regime.
