Hi everyone,

Okay so it looks like we're going to lose our park after all. We've tried to appeal to the management but it would appear that the loss of potential income for the venue outweighs our need for the park to exist. We were invited to try to match the monthly cost for the lease of the facility. But the truth is we simply cannot raise the money (around R46k per month) on our own. We've even tried speaking to potential corporate sponsors. But to date nobody has shown an interest in backing us. So yes, the park will now officially be destroyed. And we are gutted to see it go. Thank you to everyone who made a personal plea to save our home. This page will be taken down in the next two weeks. As for the future?... Keep shredding homies. The music plays on.

Hello all,

I've been in touch with the centre manager who has acknowledged our letter stating our concerns about the park's closure. To that end I've been told that they will bring the issue up for discussion at their next management meeting and revert to us on the outcome of that discussion. I'd like to thank you all for your heartfelt messages about the park and in particular the work put in by the guys doing video edits. You guys ROCK! Please keep the flow of page shares and posts coming. Tell your whole Facebook friend list to weigh in on this if you can. We need every bit of help we can get.

What it means to be part of the skate and bmx freestyle subculture. Ask any rider and they'll tell you that it is about a brotherhood. There's no try outs or rigid rules like in other sports. Because it isn't a sport. It's a lifestyle. Everyone starts at the bottom. To that end there are no exceptions. It also doesn't matter what race you are, or how rich or poor you may be. The brotherhood has no preset conditions for you to join. So many people size riders up and immediately jump to preconceived conclusions about them being losers with no ambition or goals in life. If only they knew what dedication the riders put into their craft. Riders are some of the coolest and kindest people you'll ever meet. When one rider pulls off a massive new trick it's as if everyone got lifted up by it. And if someone slams down hard, then they all wince in sympathetic pain with the guy lying on the ground. Sit at the park on a Saturday and watch the riders show up one after the other. Fist pumps roll by on greased bearings itching to meet new challenges. The helmets go on and it's time to send it. What could be better?

So it seems the news is true. They plan on taking our park away from us. Well let's take a stand and push back. Comment below on what this place means to you and let's fight the establishment on this one.

Please give some consideration to running some kind of comp at our park some time soon. We'd love to get something going. Don't need much by way of prizes at all. Just a good excuse for BMX riders to get together and have a good time 😊
