At Vergenoegd Löw, the environment isn’t something we step back to acknowledge once a year - it’s built into the way the estate functions.

The vineyards are cared for through natural rhythms. The wetlands are protected as living systems. And across the estate, sustainability is not an initiative, but an ongoing way of working with the land.

On World Environment Day, we simply reflect on what already shapes every day here: working with nature, not around it.

Our Merlot is shaped by more than season. It is shaped by place.

Grown on soils influenced by the proximity of the Atlantic, our vineyards benefit from cooling coastal air that slows ripening and allows the grapes to develop depth without losing freshness. In the cellar, we work gently - focusing on balance rather than extraction. The goal is not power, but texture: soft structure, fine tannins, and a natural sense of generosity in the glass.

The result is a Merlot that reflects the estate itself - calm, layered, and quietly expressive.

Breakfast now welcomes guests at the Homestead.

Firelight mornings, coffee poured slowly, and the warmth of a historic house that has watched the estate wake for generations.

Here, breakfast is shaped by the season - eggs still warm, ingredients from the farm, and plates that reflect where you are, not just what you’re eating.

It is unhurried by design. Bookings are essential.

Chef’s Daily Harvest Soup.

On colder days across the estate, it arrives as a quiet kind of comfort - a seasonal expression shaped by what is freshly gathered from our soils and nearby growers, slow-crafted to honour natural flavour.

Outside, the Cape weather shifts between wind and rain across the vineyards. Inside Geuwels, firelight holds its own rhythm, and the first spoon brings everything back to warmth.

Simple ingredients. Honest preparation. Served with our wood-fired Geuwels bread - a dish that fits the way the estate feels right now.

Life here is never one thing.

It moves through soil, wings, water, and wind - quietly connecting everything the estate depends on.

Ducks move through the vineyards as they have for years. Bees work between flowering spaces and cultivated rows. Insects, birds, livestock, and land all play their part in a system that does not separate nature from work - but relies on it.

At Vergenoegd Löw, the estate is not built around nature. It is built with it.

As May draws to a close at Vergenoegd Löw, the estate rests fully in its late-autumn rhythm.

The vineyards have settled into muted greens and warm browns, with light now sitting lower and softer across the land. Mornings arrive cool and quiet, carrying the scent of earth and distant wood smoke.

Nothing feels hurried here. The season has gently taken hold, and in this unspoken pause before winter, everything feels a little more considered, a little more intentional.

In celebration of National Wine Day, we’re raising a glass to Vergenoegd Löw wines and the place they come from - a working farm where vineyards, animals, soil and cellar all move in one connected rhythm.

Every bottle reflects this land, from coastal whites to structured reds shaped by deeper soils.
