It has also just been awarded the Top W**e Trophy at the 2026 SA Terroir Awards, giving us a very good reason to come back to the bottle.

In a windy place like Elim, vineyard layout is not just about neat rows.

Row orientation can influence how much wind hits the canopy, how evenly sunlight reaches the fruit and how quickly moisture dries after rain. These decisions affect vine balance long before there is anything in the glass.

This means that, the team has to pay close attention to how the vine is trained and managed.

This is another reminder that vineyard work is rarely one-size-fits-all scenario.

Try it the other way around. Pick the Ghost Corner Wild Ferment Sauvignon Blanc, then build dinner around it: grilled fish, roast chicken, charred vegetables or something with a creamy element on the plate.

As the warmer days start appearing, the instinct is usually to get the white w**es chilled.

But there is such a thing as too cold. When a white w**e is heavily chilled, its aromas and flavours can become muted.

Fuller, more textured whites often show more of themselves around 10–13 °C, where you can pick up more aroma, texture and detail in the glass.

So too cold? You may be missing half the w**e.

We have a very good reason to be talking about Semillon right now.

You may recognise it as part of a white blend, but at Ghost Corner it also gets the chance to stand on its own. The 2024 Semillon shows lemon and lime, crushed pineapple, green melon and a slightly dusty fig-leaf character.

And it has just received one of the biggest acknowledgements of its own: Top W**e Trophy at the 2026 SA Terroir Awards.

The interesting thing about Ghost Corner is that it began with a w**emaker already deeply rooted somewhere else.

David Nieuwoudt is the fifth generation of his family at Dwarsrivier in the Cederberg. But in 2007, he created Ghost Corner around vineyards in Elim, working with an entirely different landscape, climate and set of growing conditions.

That decision gave him another expression of what he does best: understanding what the vineyard gives you, then letting that guide the w**e.

Nearly two decades later, that curiosity still sits at the heart of Ghost Corner.
