⚡ HIGH ELECTRICITY COSTS? MORE SOLAR ISN’T ALWAYS THE ANSWER.

A mining client approached VACC Energy looking for a solution to reduce the impact of expensive peak electricity tariffs.

The client already had an existing 5MW Solar PV plant and was considering adding:

☀️ An additional 2MW Solar PV
🔋 A 10MWh Battery Energy Storage System

It seemed logical.

But we ran the numbers first.

By modelling the mine’s actual load profile, existing solar generation, time-of-use tariffs, peak demand, CAPEX, battery strategy and long-term financial returns, we found something important:

❌ The additional 2MW Solar PV did not provide sufficient financial benefit to justify the additional capital investment.

So we didn’t recommend it.

Instead, we focused on the real problem:

THE COST OF ENERGY DURING PEAK PERIODS.

The optimised solution:

🔋 10MWh BESS
⚡ 5MW PCS
🏗️ 11kV MV Integration

The strategy is to charge the battery when electricity is cheaper and discharge during expensive peak tariff periods — using stored energy when it has the greatest financial value.
