We regret the disruption in water services provided by Mafube Local Municipality.

In response to the public notice issued by Mafube Local Municipality regarding the water supply interruption dated 3 October 2026, we wish to express our concern regarding the allegation that the electricity outage was caused by Rural Free State.

This allegation is unfounded, as the outage originated on Eskom’s side and affected all three towns - Villiers, Cornelia and Frankfort, including Namahadi.

Rural Free State (Pty) Ltd is a private Electricity Distributor that maintains and manages the local electrical infrastructure within the Mafube Local Municipal area.

We are aware that Cornelia has been without electricity since yesterday following the severe storm, which affected the Eskom supply to the town.We are in contact with Eskom and are awaiting further information regarding the restoration of supply.We will share an update as soon as more information becomes available.

Please note that the electricity supply to Frankfort and Villiers is currently off due to an Eskom fault on the 88 kV line.

Updates will be shared as soon as more information is received.
