We began an incredible journey back in 2015, with a single vineyard and a clear ambition to make a chardonnay with old-world refinement that truly captures the spirit of South Africa.

A decade on, the Leeu Passant Stellenbosch Chardonnay has earned back-to-back Platter’s by Diners Club South African Wine Guide Chardonnay of the Year for the 2016 and 2017 vintages and 95 points from Robert Parker Wine Advocate.

The 2024 vintage is the latest release, and it continues this legacy beautifully.

On 28 April, we welcomed media and industry guests to The Wine Studio at Leeu Estates for the launch of our latest Leeu Passant vintages.

The afternoon opened with reflections from Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines Managing Partner Chris Mullineux and Leeu Collection Founder and Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines Owner-Partner Analjit Singh.

Guests then enjoyed a tutored tasting hosted by Chris and Andrea Mullineux, before ending the day with perfectly paired cuisine at La Petite Colombe, also on Leeu Estates.

Thank you to all who joined us for such a memorable afternoon of conversation, storytelling, and wine.

The Helderberg site where the 2019 Leeu Passant Radicales Libres is grown expresses the natural intensity required to create a wine that can thrive and improve while being barrel-aged for five years.

To best showcase the natural tannins of the 2023 Leeu Passant Wellington Old Vines Bason Cinsault, we put 100% crushed whole-clusters in tank with minimal sulphur added. No further additions were made.

Once the primary fermentation began spontaneously, the wine was pigeaged as often as deemed necessary.

Cinsault is a fast fermenter, so the temperature was kept cool to keep the primary fermentation at a pace to preserve the wine's beautiful fruit profile.

After three weeks of extended maceration, the wine was drained and pressed to the barrel.
