Lomond Wine Estate, near Gansbaai, is one of very few wineries with a Cape Agulhas District appellation.

'The Alchemy of Nature' is more than just a tagline. Each of our vineyards is named after Fynbos plants found on the farm. We work collaboration with the Walkberbay Fynbos Conservancy to ensure the conservation of our beautiful Fynbos mountains. On the farm you will not only come across award

winning wines but also enjoy endless views from our tasting room next to the dam, surrounding yourself with the peace and tranquility of the outdoors. With wide open spaces, we cater for the entire family (kid-friendly and dog-friendly). We are constantly hosting different events, with a wide variety of fun activities and things to do! We also supply venue facilities, so weather you are planning a wedding, birthday, baby shower, kitchen tea or corporate event, we'll be able to assist!

We’re thrilled to share that Lomond Estate Syrah 2022 has once again been named Best Syrah in Cape Agulhas at the South African Terroir W**e Awards. 🏆 Making this the second time our Estate Syrah 2022 has received this honour! 🍷

The South African Terroir W**e Awards celebrate w**es that authentically express the unique character of South Africa’s diverse w**e-growing regions, recognising the influence of soil, climate and place. The competition is particularly distinctive because entries are limited to w**es certified under South Africa’s W**e of Origin system and linked to a specific Single Vineyard, Estate or Ward.

For us, this award is a wonderful recognition of what Cape Agulhas can produce. Syrah shaped by a cool, maritime climate, distinctive soils and the rugged character of our southernmost vineyards. 🌿

Fun Fact: What Exactly Is Terroir?

“Terroir” comes from the French word terre, meaning “land.” It’s a word you’ll hear often in the w**e world, but it represents far more than simply the soil beneath the vines.

Terroir is the unique combination of soil, climate, altitude, aspect and the surrounding environment that shapes the character of a w**e. It’s one of the reasons vineyards just a few kilometres apart can produce w**es with remarkably different aromas, flavours and personalities.

South Africa is fortunate to have an extraordinary diversity of terroirs and Cape Agulhas is a wonderful example of how a distinctive place can leave its unmistakable mark on a w**e. 🍇

🌿 Conservation Update

Cleaning alien vegetation is like watching paint dry. Slow, expensive and you feel like you aren't making a difference.

Then when your wildlife camera emails pics like these to you, it is a good day! 📸

We have also provided a site on Lomond for the Cape Leopard Trust's survey and have received some wonderful pics from them. 🐆

'Only' 70 ha more to go of initial alien clearing, but pictures like these make the effort worthwhile. 💚

🌿 Farm update from Cellarmaster Anné.

The vineyards are enjoying their well-deserved winter rest, a vital period that supports vine health and fertility for the upcoming growing season. 🍇

While the vines sleep, preparations for Spring are already underway, with new vineyard rows being established and poles installed for upcoming plantings.

The fynbos surrounding the vineyards is flourishing 🌼, while the cover crops between our now leafless vines create a vibrant carpet of fresh growth.

Over the next month, pruning will begin in earnest ✂️, marking another important step in preparing the vineyards for a productive season ahead.
