The Department of Home Affairs has announced plans to phase out South Africa’s green bar-coded ID books.

According to the announcement:

With a career in the industry dating back to 2004, Marieke brings years of experience and expertise to the GBG team.

Born in Fort Beaufort, Marieke matriculated from Winterberg Agricultural High School before completing her B Comm (Taxation) degree at Stellenbosch University in 2003.

She joined GBG Somerset East in 2004 to complete her articles while completing her B Comm (Hons) degree part-time through UNISA.

Marieke qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2008 and, in 2010, transferred to the newly established GBG Middelburg branch, where she continues to contribute her experience to the Group.

With a career in the industry dating back to 2004, Lafras brings a wealth of experience across auditing, taxation, estates, accounting and consulting.

Born in Port Elizabeth, Lafras completed his B Comm Financial Accounting degree at Stellenbosch University before completing his articles at Enslins Kimberley Incorporated and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 2006.

He joined GBG in 2007 and became a director in 2010. Based in the Somerset East office, Lafras also oversees the Aberdeen, Kirkwood and De Doorns offices.

Alongside his professional responsibilities, Lafras is a sworn appraiser, a training officer for trainees in the Somerset East office, and qualified as a B-BBEE auditor in 2015.

Another valued member of the GBG team, helping clients across our offices with experience, knowledge and a practical approach. 🤝
