Through the winter months, it's dark from late afternoon well into the next morning across the Overberg and Theewaterskloof. For a working farm, that is the widest window in the calendar in which a property sits quiet, unlit and out of sight.
Longer nights mean an earlier knock-off, a later sunrise, and far more of the day spent relying on response rather than daylight and visibility. It is the season when a fast, well-coordinated presence on the ground counts for the most.
