A huge shout out to the dedicated Delphin Team for pouring our wines (in the summer heat!) and for ensuring that all visitors to our stand at the Greyton Wine Weekend received 5 Star treatment. As always we are extremely grateful to Greyton Optometrist and Lightspeed Wireless for the use of their lovely premises. It was a cracker of a weekend and we could not have done it without you!!

Spring has finally arrived in the Overberg and although temperatures are still on the cooler side the vineyards have started to bud as an exciting new season arrives at Delphin. It is time to stock up for those pool braais and picnics and we are happy to announce the release of our Lollipots Shiraz Rosé, awarded a Gold Medal at the recent Rosé Wine and Spirt Challenge. This is a refreshing dry Rosé crafted from 100% Shiraz grapes giving a medley of fresh cut flowers on the nose with lingering flavours of strawberry and watermelon on the palate. Summer in a glass!!
Available at leading Restaurants and Wine Vendors in the Western Cape and online on our website for those from afar.

We are going Pink! The harvest at Delphin is in full swing and we have just crushed some beautiful Shiraz grapes for our first Rosé Wine. Grapes were harvested early to get more fruit flavours like strawberry and watermelon but then the tricky part was to allow some skin contact after crush to get the skins to impart just a bit of colour to get that lovely pink Rosé. Super chuffed about the results thus far. Shout out to my amazing harvest team for being so patient during all the trials and iterations during press!

We are so delighted with our Platters 2025 Awards! We received 4 Stars on our 2024 Fynbos Chardonnay, our first Chardonnay using 100% grapes from our own vineyard, and also an unexpected 4 Stars on the 2023 Syrah. The Syrah grapes had to be harvested a bit early due to unseasonal rain and it resulted in a lighter and fruitier style wine that has become our “easy drinking” red, simply delicious! Our 2024 Sauvignon Blanc received 3,5 Stars, although I was expecting at least 4 Stars as it is an exceptional Sauvignon Blanc bursting with classic Passionfruit aromas. We also received “Good Value “ accolades on all our wines submitted… that simply states that this is exceptional wine for the price! Stock up now for the holidays!

So amazing to see the newly planted Tempranillo vines sprouting leaves and even little grape clusters. We removed the old Grenache vines from this block and planted 1 300 Tempranillo grafted "stokkies" in July. The intense cold weather in August and September delayed the bud burst, causing a bit of panic, until the sunny weather arrived. So why Tempranillo you may ask? Tempranillo is the most planted cultivar in Spain and an extremely popular as a single cultivar with intense aromas of Strawberries and Plums. However, it is also extremely popular for blending with other red cultivars such as Grenache and Shiraz. A critical characteristic for us is the fact that it ripens early, and we need that on Heuningkloof, where winter sets in early. Unfortunately, our first harvest will only be in 2027 but time flies on a wine farm!

Just look at that passion! Monique captivating the tasters at the Stanford Cheese and Wine festival on Saturday. What a lovely day and we were so chuffed to share our wines with the Stanford wine community... in essence my old alma mater. Thank you team it was a huge success!!

It has been an extremely wet and bitterly cold winter with our mountains frequently blanketed in snow. Spring has not yet sprung and the vines are strangely still mostly dormant. However our 2024 Sauvignon Blanc has been bottled and is ready for sales. We are so happy that the taste and quality is on par, if not better, than our sold out 2023 vintage. Roll on summer!!
We have also bottled the 2023 Syrah. We decided on calling it Syrah and not Shiraz because the style is much lighter, similar to the Northern Rhone style Syrah’s. It has a silky-smooth texture with vibrant fruit flavours… simply an easy drinking red. Meanwhile the 2024 Shiraz , our whole bunch “experiment” is aging in barrels and is giving some interesting results. Full bodied and dark red in colour with a hint of mocha and boiled sweets, and with much lower tannins than expected from the whole bunch pressing. Reminiscent of the 2020 Wheatlands Shiraz!
So this year we decided to get a Tim Atkins rating on our wines mainly because we have had a number of export enquiries from the UK. For those that don’t know Tim Atkins he is the UK based global wine Guru whose reports and ratings on global wines, are held in extremely high regard. Proud to say we achieved 89 points for the Wheatlands Shiraz, 88 points on the 2022 SMG and 87 points on our Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Yes all bronze medals but to say the least we are simply chuffed to get this recognition in Tim’s prestigious report where 2 259 wines were tasted and rated.
