Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are at Leaderex today, tackling some of the most pressing issues facing technology professionals. Antony Makins, IITPSA SIGAIR Chair, is examining AI Literacy in Governance - why executives and board members need to understand the rapid advances in AI and robotics, and the governance, operational and strategic risks of insufficient AI literacy.

Saba Rahimi, Gauteng Chapter Chair explores Cognitive Decline, Brain Atrophy & Delusions – What AI Takes Away From You!

Kurai Masocha, Innovation SIG Chairperson is addressing Agentic AI: Promises, Perils, and a Practical Control Model and Tumang Cheda, IITPSA Vice Chair of SIGAIR, is presenting an Introduction to Prompting.

These sessions focus on the questions that matter beyond the technology itself: What does AI mean for leadership and governance? How will it affect careers and organisations? And what do technology professionals need to understand now to make informed decisions about what comes next?

This month, the Western Cape Chapter visited the Hein Wagner Academy in Worcester, an institution dedicated to post-matric education and skills development for blind and visually impaired people.

Musa Salmamza, Chairperson, IITPSA Western Cape and IITPSA member, Frederick Kumi spent time with students enrolled in the Academy’s three-year cybersecurity programme, learning more about their experiences, skills and aspirations in the technology sector.

The visit highlighted an important industry challenge: for many visually impaired and partially sighted cybersecurity professionals, the greatest barrier is not a lack of skills, but accessibility.

The visit provided an opportunity to strengthen connections between the Academy and the ICT industry while highlighting the importance of building a more inclusive and accessible cybersecurity profession.

Put your brand at the centre of three major IITPSA initiatives: The ICT Skills Survey, Workforce Intelligence Conference and President’s Awards.

The ICT Skills Survey is the only research of its kind into skills supply and demand in South Africa. The 2026 survey will delve into the impacts of Al on ICT recruitment and workforces, and is expected to be of particular interest to employers and employees navigating the new Al era.

The IITPSA Workforce Intelligence Conference, the IITPSA's first conference at this scale, will be held at Emperor's Palace in Johannesburg on 30 October, when the results of the IITPSA Skills Survey will be released. This event will focus on the impact of Al on jobs and skills demand in South Africa's ICT sector.

The IITPSA President's Awards have been the most significant South African ICT industry awards for over 30 years, including prestigious Awards such as the IT Personality of the Year, Visionary CIO of the Year and Technology Excellence Award.

This year's gala awards ceremony will be held at Emperor's Palace after the IITPSA Workforce Intelligence Conference.
