Last week we visited heaven for a few hours! 🤩

, situated along the Bushman’s Nek road near Underberg, Southern Drakensberg, is a very special mountain farm. The landscape, the waterways, the fishing, the wildlife, the birdlife, the rivers and waterfalls are exceptional. 💫

We have been fortunate to visit many special places, and this certainly ranks amongst them.

Montusi Mountain Lodge and Northern Horse Trails in the Northern Drakensberg, KwaZulu-Natal proved to be a very special experience! ⛰️🤩

I am fortunate to stay in over 50 lodges and guesthouses every year, and I was genuinely impressed and surprised by the quality of the experience, from the site position, to the lodge design and layout, the warm hospitality, the conservation ethos, the great biodiversity, the delicious food and drink, and especially the horse riding trails and fly fishing.

They easily deserve their 4 star grading. I will be adding them to several of our safari tour routes going forward, and relish the thought of staying with them a few times a year.

The owners are wonderful and good people, strongly committed to conservation, and their hands on operational involvement ensures genuine quality. With confidence, I highly recommend staying with them for at least 3 nights to experience Montusi’s many joys.

This morning I was privileged to visit a very special home situated on an impressive 500+ hectare family-run Rougham Farm in Underberg.

The view was possibly the most spectacular outlook I have ever surveyed from a residential verandah. We also explored the farm, which reached spectacular rock and sourveld covered heights, and descended to magnificent river valley lows.

We enjoyed Cape Vultures flying low next to us, Grey Rhebuck and Black-backed Jackals exploring the hill slopes, a donkey baying alongside a pristine river, and energetic farm dogs scrounging amongst the reeds of the serene farm dams, all while enjoying tea and rusks.

It is a wonderful place, owned by wonderful people, possessing tremendous glamping camp potential.

Scouting for Africamps again!

If you have not yet heard, AfriCamps Boutique Glamping opened their 19th camp recently at the special Bonamanzi Game Reserve in Hluhluwe, KwaZulu-Natal. They have grown to become one of the leading glamping camp operators in Africa.

We are grateful and privileged to have been instrumental in helping source 6 of the now 19 amazing AfriCamps glamping properties across South Africa. These 6 camps are located in 4 of the country's provinces.

Looking forward to heading further afield for them once again during the course of 2025 to secure many more great prospects.

It was a privilege to speak as part of a panel on the Future Stage to an audience of over 50 guests about “Beyond the Big Five: Tapping into Africa’s Weird and Wonderful Tourism Niches”. Thank you sincerely to Brenda Walters and the wonderful Big Ambitions team for making it possible.
