Join me and this amazing group of musicians for an afternoon of amazing Celtic vibes

The intimate setting of Playhouse 5, will resonate with the timeless music of Ireland and Scotland as this evocative Celtic show makes its debut. Featuring Rhiannon Reid on vocals and guitar, Vincent Reid on keyboard and tin whistle, Philippa Kerr on violin, and Michael Webster on percussion, The Black Velvet Band brings together rich musicianship and deep respect for tradition.
The programme weaves Irish and Scottish traditional tunes with modern Irish classics, moving effortlessly between moments of lyrical beauty and driving, foot-stirring rhythm. From haunting airs to joyful reels, the performance captures both the beauty and the unrelenting spirit of the Celtic tradition—music shaped by landscape, memory, and resilience.
This promises to be a warm, immersive afternoon of storytelling, melody, and shared heritage—an invitation to listen, feel, and be carried by the enduring sounds of the Celtic world.

"Tall Order"

430mm x 840mm

Pencil on St Cuthberts Mill Saunders paper

Drawn from a series of photos taken at Tala Game reserve over the years.

I often see this giraffe early in the morning on visits to Tala Private Game Reserve and he almost always gives us the same over the shoulder look.

This piece will be on show Art in the Country Coastal | Ballito 1-4th October 2026 at the end of September

I'll be at Art in the Country Coastal next month. Looking forward to seeing some of you there!

Hot off the easel:

"Audience of Three"

700 x 500
Pencil on St Cuthberts Mill paper

I took a drive in the Karkloof on a misty morning sometime in June, looking for a typical misty midlands scene which I thought would make a great artwork.

Instead I found these cows and decided to sing for them as I was rehearsing for an upcoming show at the time.

As it turns out, cows enjoy being sung to and with all the pub type gigs I've been doing recently this was the most attentive audience I've had in a while.

Robey and Co.

Pencil on Saunders Waterford Paper

I saw this amazing old workhorse on a recent trip back to Zimbabwe to visit family. It stands along with others at Halfway House, everyone's favorite "leg stretch" point on the Harare Mutare road.

I found it's nameplate and it says Robey and Co a supplier of steam engines to the agricultural trade back in Edwardian times. This old chap would have been the motor that drove a maize threshing machine or something similar.

That is a seriously tall exhaust pipe!

A bit of research revealed that the purpose of the tall chimney was to keep hot embers away from the maize stalks and chaff.

I loved drawing the mechanical structures and found my trusty Faber Castell oil based pencils perfect for the job - a great combo together with the Saunders paper.
I was grateful for my early draughting experience at college studying interior architecture - before the days of CAD.
Hand drawn ellipses, vanishing points,  2 point and 3 point perspective were all part of the deal.
