SM COMMUNICATIONS — MUSIC INDUSTRY SUPPORT GROUP

SM Communications has created a practical support platform specifically for newcomers to the music industry and MUSOs who have not yet got their music-business administration right.

Over the years, we have received many of the same questions from artists about SAMRO, SAMPRA, metadata, registrations, royalties, music releases, digital platforms, publishing, profiles and general music industry administration.

Instead of answering the same questions one artist at a time, we decided to create a community where one question can help many.

For only R100 per month, members get access to a WhatsApp support group where we:

* 🎵 Answer music-industry questions
* 📚 Teach you the basics of the music business
* 📝 Help you understand and correct your music administration
* 💻 Show you how to DIY instead of always paying someone to do it for you
* 🎯 Give practical direction on what to do next
* 💰 Help you better understand your rights, royalties and registrations
* 🤝 Connect you with other musicians who are facing similar challenges
* 📢 Allow members to share, learn and support each other’s work

ONE QUESTION CAN HELP MANY.

You don’t have to know everything when you start. What matters is that you are willing to learn, ask questions and build correctly.

R100 PER MONTH

Learn. Ask. Do It Yourself. Build Your Career.

This is not about promising overnight success. It is about giving MUSOs the knowledge and direction to take responsibility for their own music careers.

You are invited to join us for a powerful and practical industry experience.

THE SONG is a focused music business platform designed to correct, clarify, and position your music properly within the industry. This is not a talk show this is an interactive experience where you engage directly with key industry bodies and get real answers.

We are hosting representatives from South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) who will guide you on:
• How to submit your music correctly to SABC platforms
• Understanding music rotation processes
• Compliance requirements for airplay on SABC radio stations

We will also host Recording Industry of South Africa (RISA), who will unpack:
• ISRC Codes: what they are and why they matter
• How ISRCs are issued and implemented correctly
• The role of RISA in protecting and structuring recorded music

In addition, you will gain clarity on:
• RAV (Radio Airplay Verification) and how it impacts your reporting
• The workings of the South African Music Awards (SAMA Awards)

This platform is about correcting what you may be doing wrong: directly with the institutions themselves.

SM COMMUNICATIONS STATEMENT

SM Communications Senior Consultant Empowers UGU Musicians in KwaZulu-Natal

SM Communications proudly announces that its Senior Consultant, Sakhele Mzalazala, has successfully completed a music industry development workshop in the UGU District, KwaZulu-Natal a region where opportunities for performances, structured workshops, and formal industry development remain limited despite the abundance of talent.

The workshop took place in Mzumbe, UGU District Municipality, at Ogazini Lounge and was organised by Mayibuye Entertainment as part of ongoing efforts to empower local creatives.

UGU is home to exceptional songwriters, performers, and instrumentalists. However, many operate without sufficient industry knowledge, access to platforms, or structured career guidance. Sakhele Mzalazala was invited to equip these musicians with practical tools in music business, copyright, branding, and long-term career sustainability.

He facilitated the workshop alongside the leadership team of CCIFSA, including its President, Joy Mbewana. Together, the team delivered industry insight, strategic guidance, and motivation aimed at repositioning local artists for professional growth.

Addressing participants, Mzalazala emphasised that a career in music is possible but it requires focus, consistency, self-investment, and discipline.

“This music has a future. If you focus, build yourself, support your own growth, and understand the business side of your craft, you will win. It may take time, but it is possible.”

The engagement not only provided technical knowledge but also restored hope among creatives who often feel isolated from mainstream industry access.

SM Communications reaffirms its commitment to grassroots development and is looking forward to implementing more workshops of this nature across underserved regions. The company remains dedicated to ensuring that talented artists, regardless of location, gain access to industry education, protection of their rights, and sustainable income opportunities.

Our New Mission: ARTISTS X CORPORATE

We have embarked on a new mission of creating meaningful collaborations between Artists and Corporate companies. We recognize the power and influence of corporate brands, and we have taken time to study their needs, values, and expectations. Our goal is to align Artists with these values, ensuring mutually beneficial partnerships.

Artists are not just performers they are brands, businesses in their own right, with assets that include their names, images, likeness, and music. Instead of limiting engagements to once-off bookings with basic hospitality riders, we are pitching long-term, contract based collaborations.

This approach allows Artists to secure consistent opportunities, building towards sustainable monthly income. At the same time, it provides corporates with structured partnerships that can be planned, budgeted, and reported on as part of their broader business and marketing strategies.

This is how we are doing things differently creating lasting, impactful relationships between Artists and Corporate.
