Vuyo took the first step to starting her Entrepreneurship journey, what are you waiting for?

"My name is Vuyo and a social worker by profession. Entrepreneurship is my 'LOVE' from back in high school.
I have read many motivational books and listened to many speakers, and all they did and do is to hype me up for a moment (as a coffee/caffeine does) and then drown into dreamland.
After listening to Dr Ignatius Odongo on 702 fm some time ago, I took his phone numbers and wanted to know more about me in business as I was intrigued by his business philosophy.

To cut the long story short-: I am now in possession of his book entitled 'Your Journey To Becoming A Youth Entrepreneur.'

What I love about the book is that it guides you step by step in starting your own business. Half-way through the book I have then started a small business to raise up capital to fund my ultimate goal/business which is to own a recycling business. I networked with relevant people and I have a target market and Im learning to mitigate risks also. (The Book also helps with drafting a 'realistic' Business Plan)

I FINALLY TOOK A STEP WHEN I STARTED READING THE BOOK AS IT REALLY GUIDES ME AND THE LANGUAGE IS SIMPLE FOR A NOVICE ENTREPRENEUR LIKE ME."

Thank you Vuyo and congratulations on starting your entrepreneurship journey 👏

How is your mind this Tuesday?

Psychologists believe that the MIND is central to entrepreneurship. Your mind-set creates the motivation to start your business and tells you whether you can start and succeed in business. It’s what develops your self-confidence. Most interventions on entrepreneurship don’t focus on the mind…BUT we do!

We at Entrepreneurship Journey recognise the importance of the mind in successful youth entrepreneurship. That is why the starting point of our entrepreneurship mentorship programme is the identification of entrepreneurial qualities that can be nurtured for business success.

Visit our website to read more about the mind and entrepreneurship and some of the research that Dr Ignatius Odongo has done on this topic. Click here to read

Dear colleagues, my apologies that tonight we will not have our regular live sessions on issues that affect your business. Instead, next Wednesday, we will have a conversation with Dr Caroline Ntara, an expert on international business. She will be talking to us on the topic: “How African SMMEs can Venture into International Markets”. Please join me next week, Wednesday, 22 December 2021, at 18 Hours South African time to listen to the insights that Dr Ntara will share.

My apologies for missing in action over the last couple of weeks. I had travelled for some assignments. Little did I know that it is challenging to conduct live sessions in some countries in the same way I have been doing in South Africa. Please accept my apologies for missing in action. This week we are back in action to share topical issues that impact our African businesses.

Research shows that 75% of small businesses in South Africa close within three years of their start-up. In Uganda, evidence shows that 55% close in the first year, while 30% do not last beyond the third year. Evidence shows that one of the biggest challenges of small businesses is a lack of skills in business management. Business management is defined as managing the coordination and organisation of business activities. This week on Wednesday, November 24 at 18hrs South African time, I will introduce this vital subject. Then for the next couple of weeks, we will go deeper into understanding how to set up better management systems and practices for our businesses to grow and become sustainable. Join me tomorrow, Wednesday, as we begin to unpack this important topic to assist many small businesses, particularly those owned and/or run by young people.

Good morning friends and colleagues. Many thanks to those who follow my sessions either live or through listening to the recordings. I am hoping that you are benefiting from them. This coming Wednesday at 18Hrs South African time, we will be discussing the topic "What Does Value Mean to You as an Entrepreneur?" We often hear people talk about "value proposition", "value addition", "value creation", and "value chain". What do these words mean, and what is your business's approach towards "value" in its various forms? This will be a two-part session. The first session will introduce the concept of "value" in entrepreneurship. The second session will then go into applying various forms of "value" in your business. Please join me over the next two Wednesdays as we unpack this vital topic that is a game-changer in the world of entrepreneurship.

Tonight we are changing the way we do our usual live sessions at 18Hrs South African time. I will be in a live conversation with Antony Karanja, a youth entrepreneur who has co-founded a company called Royal Touch Africa, based in Nairobi (Kenya). Research shows that in most parts of Africa only 15% of SMMEs mostly run by youth entrepreneurs survive beyond 3 years from the date of their establishment. Hence, we will discuss the topic "If Your Business is Struggling, What Next?". This very important topic will be discussed over a period of two weeks. Tonight we will be focussing on identifying the warning signs. Then next week, we will discuss what to do next. Join us as we go live in our conversation with Antony tonight at 18Hrs SA time.

This Wednesday at 18hrs South African time, we return to our normal weekly live sessions. This time we will discuss the topic "If your business is struggling, what next?". I am sure all of us who are in business identify with this situation. Our business will not always perform to our expectations all the time. But do you know how to tell the warning signs that things might not be going well? If you suspect that things are not right in your business, what do you need to do next? Join me on Wednesday as we discuss this very important subject.
