My love for food stems from the vibrant childhood I had. Where every happy occasion culminated in a bountiful feast of comfort food love and laughter.
I grew up in Unit 3 Chatsworth and Indian suburb that will always be close to my heart.
I grew up at my grandma's house and poverty was no stranger to us.
But despite it all she always made every problem seem easy with a kind smile, a profound word and a warm plate of food.
She often cooked at functions and used this meagre source of income to take care of us. Often I accompanied her and learnt alot. Her love to feed people showing in every plate from her hand.
So in 2018 when I was retrenched and unable to find formal employment I took the plunge and started Maa's kitchen.
The aim was to help people get a hot plates of decadent meals that reminded them of being home in Durban. We extended trading hours to cater for the forever hard-working folk of Johannesburg.
Two and a half years later we were well-established turning over decent profit and slowly starting to grow.
Then covid-19 happened and changed our lives forever.
January 2021 I lost my baby sister and a husband at the same time to the virus. They left behind two little boys 9 and 11 years old.
Naturally being the motherly natured person I am we returned home. Because if there's one thing life has taught me when your loved ones need you is nothing more important than that.
The last Six months has been difficult trying to re establish our identity in an area where you can get a bunny every 2 km seemed almost impossible.
But those who know me, know my tenacious spirit , forever hopeful heart and know that I never give up.
Today as we journey into our next 6 months we have comfortably established ourselves right here.
A customer who is regular, said to me and I quote " it's about the safe home cooked hygienic meals prepared with love that we get from you it's not about all the fancy stuff and the frills. And your our friendly chats that keep bringing us back" Bless her heart.
It was then that I realised it does not matter where I operate from it's the quality standard and the customer service that makes Maa's kitchen stand tall and Proud today
We Forge ahead changing our menu reporting style back to the daily menu and hope to see you support us we understand times a difficult and we want to be there to support you in this difficult times we look forward to serve you and hope to tantalize your taste buds..
Being a woman owned business is always difficult and being in kzn seems even more difficult but I am confident with the valued support of my constantly growing client base it can only auguar well for the future of Maa's kitchen.
