Orange Corners Trust South Africa is proud to spotlight Valecia Sambo, founder of Daily Sambo Service, a sustainable plumbing business focused on reducing water waste and delivering environmentally responsible solutions.
After participating in our 2025 programme, Valecia has grown both personally and professionally. She qualified as a plumber by trade, strengthened the technical foundation of her business and gained access to tools that improved service delivery.

Through programme support, she also became SARS compliant, helping formalise her business and position it for growth. Coaching sessions helped refine her business model and strengthen her marketing strategy.

Valecia has since launched PlumHer Academy, an initiative focused on training women in plumbing and sustainable practices. With support already secured for PPE and accreditation, the foundation is being built for real impact.

Her vision is clear: make eco-friendly plumbing skills more accessible, reduce water waste, lower utility costs and create pathways for women in the green economy.

At our Gauteng pitch event on 23 April, Valecia shared how funding would help scale PlumHer Academy through tools, equipment and a functional training space to empower more women. As one of the event finalists, she was also awarded additional working capital support to further assist the growth of her business.

Orange Corners Trust South Africa is proud to spotlight Shabbos Shalom Thermal Energy Storage and its founder, Nthabiseng Makhoba, whose entrepreneurial journey demonstrates the power of innovation, perseverance, and purpose-driven entrepreneurship.

Shabbos Shalom was born from a bold vision in September 2024, a vision to address one of Africa’s most pressing challenges through sustainable energy access and battery innovation for a cleaner, more sustainable future.

When the business joined the Orange Corners programme in February 2025, it was still in its early stages, driven by determination, ambition, and a commitment to creating meaningful impact. Through the programme, Shabbos Shalom gained access to entrepreneurial training, mentorship, and business development support that helped strengthen both the founder and the business.

A key highlight of the journey was the ESG and carbon credits training, which broadened the company's understanding of the global sustainability economy and challenged the team to think beyond profitability towards measurable environmental and social impact. Orange Corners also supported the development of the company's brand identity and landing page, helping establish a professional presence that investors, partners, and stakeholders could trust.

Through prototype refinement support, Shabbos Shalom successfully advanced its innovation to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 3 a significant milestone for any emerging deep-tech climate innovation venture. In addition, through the Orange Corners ecosystem and partnerships, the company secured a feasibility study through the UJ PEETS programme, adding technical validation and strengthening its position within the clean energy and battery innovation sector.

Another standout achievement came during the Orange Corners Demo Day, where the innovation earned a sponsored international business development trip to the Netherlands. This recognition will provide invaluable exposure to global markets and industry experts, focusing on the commercialisation of Thermal Energy Storage solutions in South Africa and across the African continent. The experience will also provide critical insights into accessing international markets, equipping the company with the knowledge and networks needed to accelerate its growth and scale its impact beyond borders.

Today, Shabbos Shalom is no longer just an idea on paper. It is steadily emerging as a climate-tech company with validated innovation, growing investor readiness, and a clear pathway towards commercialisation. The journey reflects what is possible when innovative entrepreneurs are given the right support, resources, and opportunities to thrive.

We are honoured to be part of Shabbos Shalom's growth story and look forward to seeing the impact this innovation will continue to make in advancing sustainable energy solutions for South Africa, Africa, and the world.

Some of the Orange Corners South Africa SMEs had the opportunity to attend the EU CBAM Workshop hosted at The Capital Empire in Sandton.

The workshop provided valuable insights and sparked important conversations around the opportunities and challenges that carbon-intensive sectors may face within the South African market. Discussions unpacked how the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is beginning to influence the future of trade, business sustainability, and global competitiveness for local companies.

As the world continues shifting towards greener economies, decarbonisation is no longer a choice — it is essential for the sustainability of our planet and future generations.

Engagements like these play a critical role in equipping businesses and entrepreneurs with the knowledge needed to adapt, innovate, and build a more sustainable future for South Africa.
