Hey...
Hope everyone is doing great!
It's been a loooong loooong time since I posted something out of my kitchen but this cake I couldn't resist posting as it was made by my 14year old son Keyur💙
He's made cupcakes before for school events but it's the 1st time he's baked, cut and decorated a full cake.
His history teacher had tasked his grade to make a cake in the shape of Africa as a fun exercise.
While he had been excited to bake, he found the decorating part quite daunting. He was so nervous and told me mum nows not the time to fool around and wanted me to decorate it even though internally he wanted to. I said to him, nope I will guide you but are doing this, it's not my project. I knew how much prouder he would be of himself if he had done it. At each stage of the process he kept saying I can't do it, and I kept coaching him yes you can and then he would get excited at the end of each stage of completion. At one stage he said to me nope nope nope I cannot do it, I said to him ok let's go to bed. I said to him I believe you can, but its your choice. I could have jumped in and done it for him and we would have gone to bed much earlier than we did, but the cost of what I would I be taking away from him was too high for me.
Had I taken over...
1. My hands are skilled through practice, I would be stealing his practice of having skilled hands someday
2. I would have stolen his glory from saying I made that by myself, I did it!
3. Confidence, because now he sees he can!
Throughout the process I took photos and videos of him making it, from his 'I can't do it' to the excitement in his eyes at each stage of completion so he remembers anything is achievable regardless of how daunting it may seem. Well done my boy, super proud of you💙💙💙
