The Rural, Township and Community Development Fund provides funding to rural entrepreneurs and promotes skills transfer and involvement by community groups. The fund supports various sectors such as Agro Processing, Manufacturing, Eco-Tourism, Forestry, Fisheries, Commercial Property, Aqua and Marine Culture, and Non-Farm Activities.
To be considered for funding, projects need to be financially sustainable, applicants should have a minimum of 25.1% black ownership, and there should be active involvement of BEE applicants and technical partners in daily operations. The business should also have the ability to repay the investment made by the National Empowerment Fund (NEF) using debt, equity, and quasi-equity instruments. The NEF plans to exit from the investment in 5 to 10 years.
The fund offers three financing products:
Acquisition: For rural entrepreneurs or communities seeking to buy equity in existing rural and community enterprises.
New Venture Capital: Assists with equity contribution towards the establishment of sustainable new ventures in the Agri-sector.
Expansion Capital: Facilitates involvement and ownership by communities in projects promoting social upliftment.
