The hot dogs are ready. The mic is ready. The deck is ready. We’re ready. 🌭🎤🔥

Pulling up to our Anti-Racist Hot Dog Party and we’re about to have a blast in Cape Town.

Because the best dogs? They’re made with diverse ingredients. ✨

Thuma mina.” It’s Zulu for “Send me.” 🇿🇦

Send me into the difficult conversations.
Send me into divided spaces.
Send me where courage is required.

Two days ago, our founder landed in Texas for the ASDASA conference and was pulled into a private room for questioning. The reason? The immigration officer found our name—Anti-Racist Hot Dog—suspicious. 🌭🤨

The irony isn’t lost on us. But neither is the privilege.

In this political climate, we were invited to speak to educators from across North America about dignity, equity, and belonging. Any discomfort we face is small compared to the giants who fought before us.

Our premise is simple: Just as diverse spices enhance a palate without taking away from the dish, diverse people don’t diminish a space. They expand it. They make it super-additive.

Difference isn’t subtraction. It’s the secret ingredient.

Next stop: Cape Town with Rustenburg Girls’ Junior School. ✈️🇿🇦

Thuma mina. Send us.

We were invited to the University of Limpopo to facilitate an ethics and inclusion training, and we left changed.

This is an institution shaped by resistance. A place that educated Black students during apartheid when access itself was an act of defiance. Learning about alumnus Onkgopotse Tiro reminded us what moral courage actually looks like when the stakes are real.

As we mark Black History Month in the US, this moment grounded us in a simple truth: struggles for dignity, justice, and ethical leadership are connected across borders. Different contexts. Same fight.

A few years ago, I got a DM from a lady who had come across our poster at . She’d learned about our work and wanted a deck of Anti-Racist Hot Dog Cards to use with her students in South Africa. At the time, we were based in New York and had shifted our work to the US.

Her request challenged us to go back to our roots and accelerate our move back to South Africa. She specifically asked for ARHD cards designed for high school students. We didn’t have them—but we told her we’d be happy to create them together.

Fast forward 18 months: we’ve launched the Anti-Racist Hot Dog Cards in South Africa, and not only is she still with us—she’s now part of our team. At the recent deputies conference, she led two powerful sessions tackling the questions of who’s not in the room and how to navigate the space in between.

Help us welcome the amazing Fiona Young!

One of the most underrated keys to ending racism?

✨ Helping people feel good about their own lives.

When folks feel grounded, affirmed, and secure, they don’t need to project their pain onto others.

But when someone feels humiliated, devalued, or powerless — that’s when bias kicks in.
Not always because they’re “bad,”
but because they’re trying to regain control.

📚 Psychologists Steve Fein & Steven Spencer ran a study that showed this:

👉🏾When white women experienced sexism — a threat to their self-worth — they became more racist.
👉🏾But when those same women were affirmed — reminded of their value and competence —
their bias dropped significantly.

Let that sink in.

✅ When people feel whole, they don’t have to harm others to feel seen.

We unpacked this in a recent session with educators in Dallas (shoutout to the !), and it hit deep.

So here’s the big truth:

One of the most radical things you can do for justice?

🫱🏾‍🫲🏾 Help people feel seen
🛡️ Help them feel safe
🏠 Help them heal

Because healing yourself is justice work. 🤎

St. John’s students using the Anti-Racist Hot Dog cards to spark real conversations this Mandela Day 🗣️🌍

🟠 Slide 1: A student responds to the question — Do white parents who adopt children from other cultures have a responsibility to connect them to their native culture? Why or why not?

🟠 Slide 2: Another student tackles a powerful immigration prompt — Are parents irresponsible for bringing their children into undocumented status in a foreign country?

Too often, conversations on race, identity, and inclusion happen in ways that are either harmful or silenced altogether. That’s why we created the Anti-Racist Hot Dog Deck — to help students engage in respectful, informed, and transformative dialogue on the issues that matter.

✊🏾 Designed for classrooms, youth programs, and courageous conversations everywhere.

DEI and BEE are at a crossroads.

With political rollbacks on inclusion and growing frustration around equity policies, our team members Kristin Brig-Ortiz and Wandile Mthiyane felt the urgency to speak up — plainly and publicly.

We didn’t write this article to defend DEI or BEE as perfect. We wrote it because the real question is: what do we do next?

🔎 Can we build cultures that outlast politics?
🛠️ Can we move from symbolism to structure?
🧭 Can we root justice not just in law — but in lived dignity, ownership, and belonging?

This piece is our reflection, our critique, and our call to action.

It was an honor to teach students at Redhill School about the art of building relationships across difference. Even more humbling was the opportunity to share the stage with giants of inclusion like Teresa Oakley-Smith and Mr. Mavuso Msimang.

A heartfelt thank you to Mmumsi and the entire team for hosting us at the African Unity and Progress Africa Day Summit. Grateful to be part of conversations shaping the future.

Honored to facilitate an Ethics Workshop with the KZN Legislature’s Ethics & Privileges Committee.

We explored what it truly means to act parliamentarily—not just by the rules, but through a deeper ethical compass rooted in purpose.

Because legacy isn’t built in laws alone. It’s built in why we serve.

And when leaders lose sight of that why—the call to improve lives and uphold the public interest—ethics become hollow.

This was a deeply engaged, thoughtful group. Grateful for the opportunity, and excited to continue supporting ethical leadership in public office.

Anti-Racist Hot Dog had a wonderful time with Bainum Family Foundation last week! 🌭

We are thrilled to share that our party was a great time thanks to all the wonderful people in attendance.☺️

The conversations were insightful and the new connections will last a lifetime.

And we were ESPECIALLY excited to use our new curriculum developed specifically for Bainum. 📚📚

Discourse surrounding race still carries a certain difficulty and discomfort. However, increased understanding about how institutions can shift their practices are important initial steps!
