South Africa has been recognised as Africa’s most beautiful country in a ranking attributed to travel guide Rough Guides, highlighting the country’s remarkable combination of landscapes, wildlife, beaches, culture and natural attractions.
The recognition has renewed attention on South Africa’s diverse tourism appeal. From Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula to the Drakensberg mountains, wildlife reserves, beaches and the Cape Winelands, the country offers an unusually wide range of scenery within one destination.
Rough Guides has previously highlighted South Africa’s diversity of scenery, including its dramatic coastline, mountains, vineyards and safari experiences.
South Africa’s appeal also extends beyond its natural landscapes. Its mix of cultures, food, history, architecture and wildlife has made it one of Africa’s leading tourism destinations.
However, “Africa’s most beautiful country” is a subjective travel accolade rather than an official continental title. Other African countries, including Tanzania, Morocco, Namibia and Seychelles, are also frequently ranked among the continent’s most visually spectacular destinations.
