🚨 BREAKING: DRIVE-BY SHOOTING IN KATLEHONG LEAVES TWO DEAD, THREE INJURED

Two people have been confirmed dead and three others injured following a drive-by shooting in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, this evening.

🔹 One person has reportedly handed themselves over to police in connection with the incident.

🔹 Emergency medical personnel and police are attending the scene.

🔹 Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Provincial Police Commissioner General Tommy Mthombeni are also at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.

All lanes are reported as closed in both directions on the N12 between Kliprivier Drive and Comaro Street in the Gleneagles area due to a crime scene.

Motorists should expect traffic delays and are advised to use alternate routes where necessary.

[JUST-IN] Cape Town has launched new specialised SWAT and aerial surveillance units to strengthen the City’s crime-fighting capacity.

The SWAT Unit will support high-risk operations, including gang-related activity, extortion, high-risk arrests and hostage situations, while the Metro Police Aviation Unit will provide aerial surveillance, suspect tracking, search and rescue and hotspot patrols.

The units form part of the City’s broader investment in policing and safety technology, including a new digital nerve centre integrating drones, CCTV, body-worn cameras and other technologies.

JUST IN:

The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, commonly known as the Madlanga Commission, will over the next two weeks hold in-camera hearings.

Due to prior commitments, the Commission will not sit on Friday, 2 October 2026.

Starting in the week of 5 October 2026, the Commission will sit in-camera to hear evidence which is not suitable for airing publicly due to ongoing investigations and/or the confidential
nature of the material.

The Commission will also during the month of October hold a two-day seminar in
preparation for the drafting of its final report.

Having considered a number of practicalities related to the upcoming local government
elections scheduled for 4 November 2026, particularly the fact that media coverage of the Commission and the provision of the livestream service will be difficult in the run-up to and immediately after the local government elections, the Commission will resume its public
hearings on 9 November 2026.

The Commission will in the remaining months of 2026 wrap up its work related to Phase Two of the inquiry, including the testimony of Minister Senzo Mchunu, before concluding
with Phase Three, which will see Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi return to the witness stand.

The Commission will throughout December 2026 and January 2027 focus on the final report,
which is due to be submitted to President Cyril Ramaphosa on 25 January 2027. The Commission would also like to inform the public that it will not be accepting any new submissions via its hotline and various other platforms, although the Commission will
continue to accept information which can assist in matters which are already receiving the attention of the evidence leaders and investigators.
