ILLEGAL FOREIGN NATIONAL ARRESTED EN ROUTE TO SMUGGLE STOLEN VEHICLE AT BEITBRIDGE
POLOKWANE – A 31-year-old foreign national has been arrested after being intercepted while allegedly transporting a stolen vehicle destined for the Beitbridge Port of Entry on Thursday, 18 June 2026.
Police acted on intelligence received in the early hours of the morning regarding a vehicle reported stolen in Gauteng that was believed to be en route for cross-border smuggling.
Officers monitored the R101 South and R519 intersection in the Westernburg policing area, where the suspect vehicle was later spotted. When signalled to stop, the driver allegedly failed to comply, leading to a high-speed chase that ended near the Shell Ultra City in Polokwane.
Investigations confirmed that the vehicle, a Nissan Patrol V8 valued at approximately R900 000, had been reported stolen in Fairland, Randburg, on 13 June 2026.
The suspect, who was found to be in the country without legal documentation, was arrested at the scene.
He is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 19 June 2026, facing multiple charges including possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, immigration violations, reckless driving, and driving without a valid licence.
