Cape Town’s young entrepreneurs have something worth celebrating 🌱

This Friday, in partnership with Workshop17 will bring together up to 40 young entrepreneurs from townships across Cape Town at Kloof Street to celebrate World Entrepreneurship Day 2026 🌞

It will be a day to learn, connect and celebrate the people building businesses and creating opportunities in their communities 🌻

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Tshepo Mathekga as our Chief Executive Officer ✨

As the organisation enters its next phase, Tshepo will lead Huruma Bantfu’s work across partnerships, advisory services, and strategic initiatives that strengthen organisations, communities, and local economies 🌞

Tshepo brings experience across philanthropy, partnership development, entrepreneurship support, and community engagement. Throughout his career, he has been drawn to work that brings people together, connects resources to opportunities, and builds meaningful relationships and partnerships across sectors 💦

We are grateful for the foundations laid by our founders and excited for this next chapter as we continue to strengthen existing relationships, pursue new opportunities, and grow Huruma Bantfu’s work alongside the partners and communities that have been part of the journey so far 🐤

Please join us in welcoming Tshepo to the growing Huruma Bantfu family!

When a fire breaks out, residents are forced to run from their homes with only a few belongings. Some lose everything they own, including clothes, food, schoolbooks, and important documents, such as identity books. Children are often left frightened and traumatised after witnessing the destruction of their homes and communities 🔥 🚒

Cultural transformations focus on the values, mindsets and narratives that shape how societies define progress and a good life. By drawing on diverse traditions, knowledge systems and intergenerational learning, we can reimagine humanity’s place in the world and inspire regenerative cultures that reconcile people and planet 🌱

Entrepreneurs experience mental health challenges, with burnout, depression, and anxiety being the most common conditions. Entrepreneurs are grappling with inflation, rising interest rates, and persistent infrastructure challenges. When these realities meet the emotional weight of entrepreneurship, the risk of burnout increases sharply 🌱

Africa has one of the largest treatment gaps globally as a result of stigma, fragmented service delivery models, and human resource shortages, which in turn contribute to poorly developed and underfunded health services. Stigma also suppresses the visible demand that funders typically respond to, making it harder to build the advocacy case for investment in mental health programmes ✨

While youth philanthropy is growing, it is often characterized by small-scale, locally focused, and disconnected projects that make it difficult to evaluate, scale, or understand the overall effectiveness of young people’s contributions to social change ✨
