The DALRO Can Themba Merit Award, launched at the Time of the Writer Festival in 2025, is one of the contributing initiatives to the South African literary landscape by opening doors for South African emerging authors, for their creativity to be experienced.

We're Live at this year's Time of the Writer Festival on Saturday, 28 March, 10h00 at the KZNSA Gallery where we will highlight the importance of Initiatives such as the DALRO Can Themba Merit Award and what happens beyond such initiatives, particularly for the authors.

Join our panel, Facilitated by renowned author, Barry Gilder, featuring our 2025 winner, Dyondzo Kwinika alongside LitFestBergen curator, Teresa Grøtan for an informative conversation.

The 2025 Winner of the inaugural DALRO Can Themba Merit Award, Dyondzo Kwinika will be at this year's Time of the Writer Festival in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal from 23 - 28 March.

Dyondzo will share his experience in a panel discussion scheduled for Saturday, 28 March.

On Thursday, March 26th, we bring together voices that refuse to be silenced. Join us for a powerful conversation on Literature and Activism, featuring world-renowned Palestinian author Susan Abulhawa, the fearless playwright and novelist Megan Choritz and South Africa’s own Zukiswa Wanner and moderated by Danyela Demir.

From the shores of Gaza to the heart of South Africa, these writers explore how memoir and fiction become tools of resistance, solidarity, and political conscience.

As we wrap up yet another successful year, we will be taking a little break to recharge.
