How To Stop Your Dog From Pulling On Leash:

Loose leash walking - Outside

If you are overpowered by your dog’s pulling and cannot start the teaching process for fear of being pulled over, then there are humane equipment solutions to help modify the pulling while you teach your dog to walk appropriately.

A chest-led harness is a perfect training aid, as it takes pressure off a dog’s sensitive neck by distributing the pressure more evenly around the body. When the leash is attached to a ring located on the chest strap and your dog pulls, the harness will turn his body around rather than allowing him to go forward. I recommend this kind of harness for anyone who needs extra help, as safety has to come first.

Leash pulling is often successful for the dog because the person inadvertently reinforces the pulling by allowing their dog to get to where he wants to go when he pulls. But you can change this picture by changing the consequence for your dog.

When he pulls, immediately stop and stand completely still until the leash relaxes, either by your dog taking a step back or turning around to give you focus. When the leash is nicely relaxed, proceed on your walk. Repeat this as necessary.

If you find this technique too slow you can try the reverse direction method. When your dog pulls, issue a 'Let’s Go' cue, turn away from him and walk off in the other direction, without jerking on the leash.

You can avoid yanking by motivating your dog to follow you with an excited voice to get his attention. When he is following you and the leash is relaxed, turn back and continue on your way. It might take a few turns but your vocal cues and body language will make it clear that pulling will not be reinforced with forward movement, but walking calmly by your side or even slightly in front of you on a loose leash will allow your dog to get to where he wants to go.

You can also reinforce your dog’s decision to walk close to you by giving him a motivating reward.

Parvovirus

What Is Parvo?

Parvo is a highly contagious virus. It causes an infectious gastrointestinal (GI) illness in puppies and young dogs, and without treatment, it is potentially deadly.
Part of what makes the virus so dangerous is the ease with which it is spread through the canine population. The virus spreads either by direct contact with an infected dog, or through f***s, and an infected dog can begin shedding the virus four-to-five days after exposure — often before the dog starts exhibiting any clinical signs of infection. The dog will continue to shed the virus while he is sick and for up to 10 days after he has recovered. This means that accurate diagnosis and quarantine are essential for the health of your dog and of other dogs, as well.

What Dogs Are Most at Risk for Parvo?

Young dogs between six weeks and six months old, unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated dogs are most at risk for contracting parvo. German Shepherd Dogs, Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, English Springer Spaniels, and American Staffordshire Terriers also have an increased risk of contracting the parvovirus, although scientists are not entirely sure why these dog breeds are at a higher risk than others.
Puppies are born with antibodies from their mothers. As these antibodies fade, however, it is up to owners to make sure that the puppies receive a course of parvo vaccinations. The stress of weaning and a secondary parasite or infection, along with parvo, can lead to a more severe case of parvo, which is why it is very important to talk to your vet about the proper care for puppies and pregnant bi***es.

What Causes Parvo in Dogs?

The canine parvovirus causes parvo in dogs, and it can be transmitted in two ways. The first is by direct contact through the nose and mouth with infected p**p, which can happen when a dog sniffs or licks a surface or another dog that has been contaminated with f***s. Since puppies explore their world through smell and love to mouth things.

HU***NG

And now that I have your attention

I need to explain why dogs hump and that it does not mean that your dog is dominant.

I'll start by saying that hu***ng is often not sexual. Humans tend to sexualize things and often think that a puppy is just "mature" or "in the mood" and it's simply not true. It is only sexual when a female in heat is around an unaltered male dog, and only then.

So why do dogs hump then? Why do puppies do it? Why do females do it? Let me explain.

Hu***ng can actually be what's called a displacement behaviour, which means that your dog feels conflicted emotions and isn't sure of what to do. We see this often in dogs who haven't been properly socialized and meet up to play. The unsocialized dog, if still able to socialize could start hu***ng the other dogs because they simply don't know what else to do. It can also signal that your dog is too excited, anxious, frustrated (not in a sexual way) or even over tired. Hu***ng feels good and is often a way that your dog can comfort themselves when feeling uneasy or bored.

So if it's "normal" for dogs to do it, why shouldn't we let them do it? Well, simply, it can be rude. There are some dogs who actually have hu***ng as a play style, but very few, and the dogs who don't accept it as a play style can easily get annoyed and a fight can break out. If your dog humps people, again, it's rude and can be embarrassing.

What do you need to do then?

Step 1: Make sure that your dog doesn't have an underlying UTI. Some dogs hump because it relieves the irritation and comforts them temporarily. If all health issues have been cleared, move on to step 2.

Step 2: Stop the behaviour as soon as it starts. We have a rule in dog training and behaviour, the more a dog practices a behaviour, the more they will do it. If it makes it easier, keep your dog attached to a leash, or a long line and remove them every time they try to hump a person or dog. By removing them, it also teaches them that this behavi
