South African Chambers of Commerce and Industry The biggest Chamber organisation in Africa representing up to 20 000 businesses nationally

With wide-ranging changes taking place in South Africa, as well as internationally, business people find it increasingly difficult to operate in isolation and ensure survival. The chamber movement represented by the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (formally known as South African Chamber of Business (SACOB)) and its almost 50 constituent chambers is a lifeline for business people. The SACCI membership comprises approximately 20 000 small, medium and large enterprises across the breadth of the nation and across all economic sectors. Large enterprises are generally direct members of SACCI while small and medium enterprises are members through more than 50 local and regional chambers and 15 national associations.

Today’s UNDP × SACCI engagement brought together government, business and development partners for an important conversation on South Africa’s critical minerals opportunity.

The discussions focused on moving beyond mineral wealth towards greater investment, local beneficiation, stronger enterprises, inclusive development and sustainable job creation.

A key message throughout the day was the importance of partnership. Government, the private sector and development institutions each have a role to play in building a minerals sector that delivers greater value for South Africa and its people.

From the DMPR’s overview of programmes and opportunities, to UNDP’s strategic perspective on turning mineral wealth into inclusive development, the conversations reinforced the need to translate South Africa’s resource advantage into real economic impact.

Thank you to all speakers, partners and delegates who contributed to today’s engagement.

The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) was pleased to host a 12-member business delegation from Henan Province, China, led by Mr Liu Bing, Vice Chairman of CCPIT Henan.

The delegation included entrepreneurs and manufacturers specialising in mining and industrial equipment, including conveyor belts, automatic lubrication systems, filtration equipment, pneumatic clutches, hydraulic hoses, filter press equipment, crushers, ball mills, screening machinery and cranes.

The engagement with SACCI CEO Mr Alan Mukoki provided an opportunity to discuss potential areas of trade, investment, technology cooperation, market access and business-to-business partnerships between South African and Chinese companies.

With Henan being one of China's major manufacturing and industrial centres, the visit highlighted the potential for stronger commercial cooperation, particularly in sectors supporting mining, manufacturing and industrial development.

SACCI remains committed to facilitating meaningful international business connections and creating platforms that enable South African businesses to engage with global markets.
