Our country has had a tremendous and emotional history through sport which has brought us unforgettable legacies. Of note being the 1995 Rugby World Cup, 1995 Orlando Pirates (African Champions), 1996 Africa Cup of Nations, 2007 Rugby World Cup, 2008 SA Paralympic team, Castor Semenya and lastly the hosting of the prestigious 2010 Soccer World Cup event. We surely cannot underestimate our ability to succeed when working together as a nation. But even after these great milestones and achievements our athletes attained we still do not support our sports events as much as we should. It is all our responsibility to uplift the standard and reputation of this beloved country, because when an athlete/player performs unsatisfactorily we feel the urge of criticizing and blaming them. Likewise we should also contribute to support them, motivate their spirits and feel their ears with noise of our cheers at the stadium not on the couch at home or in the pub.
The establishment of AvidFan Hub seeks to re-energise the landscape of our sport culture by involving everyone in the family, as attending sport events could be used as leisure time for family/friends to bond. We have seen and envied sport fans and their athletes in Europe/America who always fill the stadiums to capacity. Their sport success cannot be attributed to technological, scientific and financial advancement but most importantly to the passion and the never ending support of sport fans who fill the stadiums come rain or snow. In South Africa we lucky we don’t have snow but we still lag behind.
